High School Youth Programs | Springfield College

PLEASE NOTE: We will not be offering any summer programs this year

The Division of Inclusion and Community Engagement offers two programs for high school students:

Summer Youth Employment Program

The Summer Youth Employment Program provides six Springfield youth, rising sophomores to rising seniors 16 years of age or older*, with 20 hours per week of summer employment and vocational experience at Springfield College. Current seniors are ineligible.

Participants will work on the Springfield College campus, primarily in facilities and grounds, and will develop workplace skills and competencies while working side by side with positive student and adult role models and enjoying the beautiful campus environment.

The Springfield College Youth Summer Employment Program will run for approximately eight weeks. Youth participants must be Springfield residents and attending high school in the fall.

The Summer Youth Employment Program works to accomplish the following for its youth participants.

  • Impart valuable employment skills
  • Provide youth with summer income in safe and nurturing community
  • Provide employment experience that stresses the development and practice of real-world labor expectations
  • Introduces youth to Springfield College and its diverse programs of study
  • Provide opportunities for career instruction and financial literacy training

Interviewing best practices:

  • Be on time (a few minutes early is on time.)
  • Dress for success (i.e., no ripped jeans, no sweats, wear a belt)
  • Good energy
  • Turn off cell phone
  • No gum
  • Make eye contact
  • Be prepared to answer why you're interested in the job (not "my mom told me.")

*Due to Massachusetts laws regulating minors' work hours and occupational restrictions, applicants must be 16 years of age or older

This program will not be offered for the Summer of 2024.

Social Justice and Health Professions Academy

Springfield College Social Justice and Health Professions Academy is seeking 20-25 area freshman, sophomore, and junior high school students to participate in a four-day  program.

We want socially conscious high school students to engage in dialogues on health, access, and equity via an introduction to areas of health study, such as occupational therapy, physical therapy, physician assistant studies, speech-language pathology, public health, and others. Students also will engage in hands-on learning through our human anatomy lab and simulation lab, and more.

The cost of the academy is $100 and includes accommodations for three overnight stays and meals in the dining hall as well as a program T-shirt, learning activities in our health sciences labs, and study materials. The program is partially funded by a Health New England Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, Belonging Mini Grant.

Please contact us at inclusion@springfieldcollege.edu for more information.

This program will not be offered for the Summer of 2024.
