Service & Volunteer Opportunities
With our mission and rich tradition of leadership in service to humanity, many local community groups and agencies welcome Springfield College students as volunteers. There are numerous opportunities for student volunteers to hone their leadership skills, develop valuable experience, and make a difference is Springfield and surrounding communities.
Here are some places that have historically welcomed volunteers from Springfield College. Please contact them directly to see how your interests could fulfill their needs. United Way of Pioneer Valley provides a centralized list or “clearinghouse” of volunteer opportunities for individuals and groups at both member- and non-member agencies.
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Hampden County has been matching “Bigs” (volunteers) with Littles (children) for more than 40 years. Bigs meet with their Littles (ages 7 through 14) every other week for a few hours for fun and activities.
The Food Bank of Western Massachusetts is located in Hatfield, Mass. The mission of the food bank is to distribute food to those in need in the four counties of western Massachusetts and to work with our community to end hunger.
Girl Scouts of Central and Western Massachusetts is part of one of the largest and wlel-knows “girl-focused” organizations in the country. Volunteers have the opportunity to work directly or indirectly with girls and can be involved with scouting on a short- or long-term basis.
International Language Institute (ILI) of Massachusetts promotes cross-cultural understanding through language instruction and teacher training. They are looking for volunteers to assist with their tutor program. ILI provides free 12-hour tutor training and provides ongoing support to volunteers.
Junior Achievement is dedicated to providing economic education and financial literacy programs to youth in Western Massachusetts. Volunteers receive training and assistance delivering the professionally developed curriculum materials.

YMCA of Greater Springfield serves the human needs in greater Springfield by providing programs that promote lifelong personal growth and the balanced development of spirit, mind and body for all.
