Springfield College President Mary-Beth Cooper addressed nearly 2,000 of her students today before heading out to their various community improvement jobs.

Cooper says that other area schools perform similar days during there orientations, but she feels waiting until a few weeks into the school year lets them form bonds with other students to volunteer in groups with friends.

“We really believe in leadership and service to others. What that means is it’s not just doing something for someone else, but its about them learning about their community, that means everyone pitches in to make it stronger, particularly the youth,” Cooper explains. Read more.
