I hope you’ve had a happy, healthy, and re-energizing summer and are ready to start the new academic year at Springfield College. I’m looking forward to seeing you back on campus.
A lot has happened here on campus this summer. Upon your return, you may notice some new changes and faces. Updates to Alumni Hall began last month, and will continue throughout this academic year. The project will include renovations to residential rooms, Carlisle Foyer, and MacLean Terrace in an effort to enhance the student life experience that compliments the College’s academic programs.
In July, following an extensive national search, Michael Sullivan joined the Springfield College community as executive director of public safety/chief of police. Sullivan has most recently served as the chief/director of public safety and campus operations at Elms College. He previously was employed by the Amherst Police Department for more than 33 years. Sullivan replaces Judy Jackson, who retired this summer after 40 years of leadership and service at the College.
Safety remains a top priority at Springfield College. We’ve upgraded to a new campus alert system as we continually look for better ways to communicate with our campus community in an emergency. Information on how to register for the new alert system is included in this letter. I urge you all to sign up as soon as possible.
It is with great pleasure that I welcome you back to another academic year. I’m excited to see what we will accomplish together this year.
