McCabe Lecture 2013
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Springfield College Department of Biology and Chemistry recently hosted the 16th annual Britton C. and Lucile McCabe Lecture featuring Janet Yancey-Wrona at the Cleveland E. and Phyllis B. Dodge Room in the Richard B. Flynn Campus Union. Yancey-Wrona’s presentation entitled, “My Life App,” focused on how science and its practical application has infused her career.
Yancey-Wrona is currently the product manager for lab products at Maine Manufacturing, LLC, where she markets solutions for protein detection and analysis. Prior to joining Maine Manufacturing, LLC, Yancey-Wrona was the first director of the office of innovation and science advisor to the Governor of Maine, where she developed a state science and technology action plan to promote economic development through support of innovation throughout the state.
Yancey-Wrona also was the founding president of the Maine Technology Institute, where she developed and managed several funding programs investing more than $20 million in Maine companies and institutions for research and development. Many of the programs led to the commercialization of new products and services in order to create jobs and economic prosperity across the state.
The Britton C. and Lucile McCabe Lecture has been in existence at Springfield College since 1997 and honors longtime professor of biology at the College, Britton C. McCabe, and his spouse, Lucille McCabe. The lecture series brings noted professionals in the health, biological, and physical sciences to Springfield College to discuss timely topics and discoveries.
