A Global Influence
Originally from London, I was first introduced to the YMCA when I was a counselor at YMCA Camp Becket in the Berkshires (Massachusetts). I enjoyed the experience so much that I returned years later for a position with its year-round operations facility, the Berkshire Outdoor Center. Through the years I met many Springfield College alumni who insisted that I look at Springfield College to pursue my academic path. The initial inquiries to Springfield College led me to Harry Rock, Springfield College Director of YMCA Relations, and after our conversation, my interest in the College was confirmed.
It would be nearly two years until I did transfer into Springfield College and enrolled in the YMCA professional studies program but I reintroduced myself to Harry, and he not only remembered me, but welcomed me into the program and encouraged me to be involved in the Y Club at Springfield College. Since joining the program and Y Club, I have been exposed to the many social causes that the Y stands for, as well as to the continued efforts of the YMCA to build and strengthen communities. Harry Rock and Springfield College YMCA Relations have been instrumental in my development as a cause-driven leader and have cultivated my dedication to a career with the YMCA after graduation.
