Prepared to Lead
My name is Jenna Wehry, and I’m a youth development major and YMCA professional studies minor at Springfield College. My experience with the Y began as a camper, and ultimately led to me serving as a day camp counselor for the kindergarten and first grade children. It was in this role I realized wanted to work toward my Early Education and Care (EEC) qualification (infant-preschool). I began my college career at another institution, but then learned of the strong ties between the YMCA and Springfield College, and made the decision to transfer. Director of YMCA Relations at Springfield College Harry Rock had called me to tell me more about Springfield College, and after one conversation with him, I knew I had to be part of this program. He has so much knowledge about the Y, and has truly been a mentor and inspiration to me from day one.
In January 2012, I received my EEC qualification at the Pittsfield, Mass., YMCA. The YMCA Professional Studies program has prepared me enormously for my future goals. I have had the opportunity to attend AYP conferences, where I have been able to meet other YMCA professionals. I know that the preparation I will receive, and the vast knowledge I am gaining about the YMCA organization as a whole, will benefit me greatly as I work to attain my career goals. I hope
to one day become an executive within the Y, and feel confident that the skills I’ve gained in this program will allow me to make my dream a reality.
