Paying it Forward.
My name is Brittany Sasidharan and I grew up at the YMCA of Greater Springfield, Mass. I have done everything from play t-ball at the Y on Saturday mornings when I was five years old, to participate in the Youth and Government and Leaders Club, to travel to Italy and Greece. My experiences at the Y have taught me about life, and about the power
of giving back.
As a Springfield College youth development major minoring in YMCA professional studies and nonprofit business, I’ve had numerous opportunities to learn. I have advised the Leaders Club, facilitated the day camp ropes course, served as site director for a middle school after-school program, and worked in Member Relations, Health and Wellness, as well as
with the Child Watch program. And, I’ve furthered my understanding of the YMCA at the professional level by attending AYP conferences.
James Morton, who was president and CEO of the YMCA of Greater Springfield and currently serves in those roles for the YMCA of Greater Hartford, has been a father figure and mentor to me throughout my time in the Y. We met when I
was 12, at the time my older brother joined Youth and Government. Since then, James has guided and encouraged me to achieve my full potential. But, he’s
provided more than support and encouragement and time; It is his devotion and passion that have inspired me to be the same for others. I’ve been afforded such great opportunities through the Y – learning, serving, and growing – and I’m excited to spread the Y mission.
