Impacts and Outcomes
In 2012-13, AmeriCorps members from the Springfield College Student Success Corps provided service to 479 at-risk students in Springfield, completing 44,500 hours of service in 9 schools. Members had significant impacts on early literacy skills development, attendance, behavior/disciplinary issues, and academics.
- 97% of 4 and 5-year-olds who received intervention as part of the Minnesota Reading Corps Pre-K replication showed improvement in 3 of the Big 5 literacy skills predictive of reading success.
- 86% of students served who were chronically absent (attendance rate less than 80%) in 2012, improve their attendance rate in 2013.
- 51% of student's served who had disciplinary incidents in 2012 decreased their number of disciplinary incidents in 2013.
- 51% of students served improved their academics success in English and/or math.
