The AmeriCorps programs at Springfield College recruit 82 AmeriCorps members to support students in the Springfield Public Schools through academic coaching, counseling, literacy instruction, and volunteer recruitment. The programs are supported in part by the Corporation for National and Community Service, the Massachusetts Service Alliance, the Funder Collaborative for Reading Success, and the Irene E. and George A. Davis Foundation.
While there is no typical AmeriCorps member, all candidates should possess high moral and ethical standards and demonstrate a commitment to lifelong learning and community service. Through the application we hope to get a sense of the qualities, skills, and goals that make you an ideal candidate for the AmeriCorps Program and for your selected service position. Your application, letters of recommendation, and résumé help create a full picture of you and what you can bring to national service. Please be sure to fill out the application and attached forms completely and to the best of your ability.
Full-time positions are open to the community, while most half-time and quarter-time positions are reserved for Springfield College students. However, applications from non-students and students from other institutions of higher education will be considered for half- and quarter-time positions not filled by Springfield College students.
Undergraduate and graduate students can apply for part-time (900 hours) or quarter-time (450 hours) positions. This is a great opportunity to get involved in the local community, network with other students, and gain valuable experience. You will learn teamwork, communication, responsibility, and other essential skills that will help you for the rest of your life, and you’ll gain the personal satisfaction of taking on a challenge and seeing results.
To apply, complete the AmeriCorps Application and submit it to the AmeriCorps Program Office along with the following:
- Three letters of recommendation
- Brief personal statement, responding to the questions in the application
- A copy of your résumé
Applications are accepted on a rolling basis; however, it is recommended that you submit your application by April 1. All applications will be considered until the corps is full. Applications are placed in review as they become complete, provided space is still available. Once the applications have been reviewed, the program staff will initiate the interview process with the best candidates. Not all applicants will receive an interview. Once the interview process is complete, the program staff will select the best candidates for membership.
Springfield College does not discriminate in admissions or employment policies and practices on the basis of race, sex, sexual orientation, age, color, religion, national origin, disability or status as a veteran.
