Posted June 18, 2012
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. -- Springfield College has been selected as one of 40 institutions to participate in the Council of Independent Colleges (CIC) Engaging Evidence Consortium project. The project is designed to develop a network of institutions committed to using data to improve student learning.
Each institution was selected based upon a task it will undertake to improve student learning on its campus. The Springfield College project is titled “Utilizing American Association of Colleges and Universities (AAC&U) Value Rubrics to Enhance Classroom Pedagogy and Assess Critical Thinking.” Critical thinking has been identified as one of the institutional outcomes of the college and as part of this project, faculty members from several different majors will participate in a program focused on utilizing the AAC&U Value Project rubric related to critical thinking.
As part of the undertaking, Springfield College will send a four-person team to Washington, D.C. this August to participate in the consortium meeting. Representatives will include Vice President for Academic Affairs Jean Wyld, Dean of the School of Arts, Sciences, and Professional Studies Anne Herzog, Chair of the Applied Exercise Science Department Tracey Matthews, and Associate Professor in the Humanities Department Missy-Marie Montgomery.
Assistant Vice President for Academic Affairs Mary Ann Coughlin will serve as a senior advisor to CIC on the project. Some of her responsibilities include organizing the agenda for and leading sessions at the conference.
At the consortium meeting, leading national experts will facilitate discussions on various assessment topics. Campus leaders will share information about successful projects and participants will discuss how they can implement what they have learned into their own campus projects.
