The office of institutional research (IR) supports the mission of Springfield College by serving as a resource of institutional data and information. Through data collection, analysis, and reporting, IR provides information which supports institutional planning and decision making. Some of the functions of IR include the following:
- Data Collection and Organization:
IR coordinates the collection of data from various campus departments and offices, as well as from external sources, for reporting and internal analysis. For example, IR coordinates the publication of the annual Springfield College Fact Book as well as providing data support for our institutional self-study for accreditation.
- External Reporting:
IR is responsible for coordinating the submission of institutional data for external surveys and external agencies, such as the Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS) of the National Center for Education Statistics’ (NCES).
- Survey Research:
IR supports our participation in external surveys such as the National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE) and conducts internal surveys, such as the Springfield College Senior Survey, the Springfield College Post-Graduation Survey, and the Springfield College Alumni Survey.
- Institutional Effectiveness:
IR provides analytical support for institutional initiatives such as peer benchmarking and student retention and graduation rate analysis.
