Babson Library welcomes Springfield College alumni and guests and encourages them to use the library's resources. This page describes the policies and procedures for both groups and outlines how to carry out certain tasks.

Registration

Alumni: Springfield College alumni must present valid identification, such as a driver's license, to register and borrow items.

Guests: Current students, faculty, and staff from the Cooperating Colleges of Greater Springfield, as well as individuals who have a current, valid Springfield City Library card, may apply for guest borrowing privileges at Babson Library. Guests must present valid identification to register and borrow library materials.

A Babson Library guest card valid for 1 year will be issued to both alumni and guests at the time of registration.

Loan Periods

Alumni and guests who visit the library in person may borrow books, videos, and DVDs from our collection for the following loan periods:

Type of materialLoan periodRenewals
Books28 days2
Videos/DVDs7 days2

Alumni and guests who cannot visit Babson Library in person, but still wish to borrow items from the collection, should contact their local library to arrange for an interlibrary loan.

Renewing Items

Alumni and guests can renew their library items online as long as they are not overdue. Please follow these steps:

  • Go to Voyager, the library online catalog
  • Click on the My Account button
  • Type the letters and numbers that appear below the barcode on your temporary Babson Library ID in the first box
  • Type your last name in the second box
  • Click the Login button
  • Scroll down to the Charged Items section
  • Check off the books you want to renew
  • Click the Renew Items button

If your renewal was successful, the word Renewed and the new due date will appear in the "Status" section of your account.

What if I get a not renewed message instead?

Fines

The library does not charge fines for overdue materials.

Borrowers will, however, be responsible for paying the replacement costs for items that are not returned. Please refer to our Lost/Billed Items page for more information about these charges and how to get credit for lost items that are returned.

Does the Library send out overdue notices?

Holds/Recalls

Alumni and guests must visit the library to place holds for items charged out to another patron.

Databases and Articles

At this time, licensing agreements with database publishers and vendors preclude the off campus use of these services by alumni and guests. Alumni and guests are welcome to visit the library in person to access these services.

Materials Located outside Babson Library

Alumni and guests can search other library catalogs if the book they are looking for is not held by Babson Library. Public Services staff are happy to help visitors with this process. Alumni and guests wishing to request an item via interlibrary loan, however, must contact their local public library to place a request.
