Advanced Senior Program

Rehabilitation and Disability Studies Advanced Senior/Graduate Program Leading to a Master's Degree in Rehabilitation Counseling and Services

Today, many undergraduate students begin thinking about a graduate degree during their freshman or sophomore year. The Rehabilitation and Disability Studies major offers an accelerated program which a student can earn a bachelor's degree and master's degree in 5 ½ years. Students accepted into this program will begin taking graduate courses during their senior year.

Eligibility requirements are as follows:

1. Student must have attained senior status or the completion of 106 semester hours of acceptable undergraduate work.

2. Student must be a rehabilitation and disability studies major.

3. Student must complete the following courses before starting the program:

RHDS 126 - Principles of Rehabilitation Counseling
RHDS 230 - Psychology of Disability
CMDS 101 - Introduction to Communication Disorders
RHDS 320 - Assessment and Appraisal
RHDS 360 - Medical Information
RHDS 402 - Parents and Families of the People with Disability
RHDS 430 - Children and Disability
RHDS 470 - Needs of the Aging
RHDS 384 or RHDS 386 - Fieldwork in Rehabilitation

4. A 3.00 Cumulative GPA

5. A 3.33 GPA within the RHDS Major (Applicants with a minimum 3.00 GPA, total and major, but with exceptional clinical experiences or related background will be considered)

6. Student should demonstrate potential for future success in Rehabilitation as indicated by co-curricular and leadership activities, volunteer work, fieldwork, and/or paid employment in services to others. Personal and professional references will be reviewed.
