Exercise Science and Sport Studies
Applied Exercise ScienceIn the Applied Exercise Science major, you’ll learn to evaluate and prescribe exercise programs for a wide range of populations interested in physical fitness. You’ll gain hands-on experience through fieldwork on the campus and in exercise and fitness facilities around the country. Our graduates go on to careers working with athletes in high schools, colleges, universities, and professional sports teams; as personal trainers; or working in wellness programs in commercial, corporate, and agency settings. |
Athletic TrainingAs an athletic training major, you’ll learn athletic injury prevention, assessment, and rehabilitation. Our graduates go on to become athletic trainers for high schools, colleges, universities, professional sports teams, sports medicine clinics, and other health-care settings. Many continue with graduate study in medicine and allied health. |
Physical Education and Health Education
Movement and Sport StudiesAs movement and sport studies major, you’ll gain a comprehensive understanding of the scientific and social foundations of movement and its cultural forms of dance, sports, games, and exercise. Our graduates have gone on to work as physical education teachers and coaches, and pursue graduate study in movement and sports studies, sport management, rehabilitation, and allied health fields.

Health StudiesGain the knowledge and skills to plan, implement, and evaluate health programs. The Health Studies Major and Teacher Preparation Program is one of only a few such professional programs in New England. Graduates go on to careers in government and social agencies, public and private schools, and clinical settings such as hospitals and medical facilities.

Sport ManagementThe Sport Management major prepares students for careers in the business of sport. As sports have evolved into an integral part of the American culture, the operations of sport programs and facilities have become more sophisticated and complex. As a sport management major, you’ll gain real-world experience through internships. Our graduates are employed with professional sports teams, national sports television stations, national sports organizations, collegiate sports departments, and more. |

Recreation ManagementThe Recreation Management major will prepare you for leadership positions in programming, program design, personnel management, and research in the field of recreation. Our students are involved in internships with a variety of organizations. Graduates are employed in resorts, the adventure trip industry, the travel business, corporate recreation services, campus and municipal recreation programs, armed forces recreation programs, and more.
Recreation Management With Camp Management Option
Recreation Management With Therapeutic Recreation Option and Child Life Option The Therapeutic Recreation and Child Life Options concentrate on the philosophy that recreation is essential to people's overall development. Completing this option will prepare you for certification as a therapeutic recreation specialist. You’ll work in settings serving people with physical, emotional, psychiatric, and developmental disabilities. You will also work with older adults; people with chronic illness; people with substance abuse problems; and individuals in correctional institutions. |
