Responding to advance notice of the ranking from U.S. News, Springfield College President Richard B. Flynn said, “We are very pleased that the annual college rankings continue to recognize the excellence of education at Springfield College. The America’s Best Colleges annual issues provide useful information for high school students in their searches for an undergraduate program. For each student, finding the college that is the right personal fit involves many factors and individual preferences, in addition to measures reported in ‘U.S. News,’ including a college’s academic programs, facilities, activities, athletics, campus life, location, cost, and availability of financial aid.
“For more than a century, Springfield College has been the right choice for students preparing for leadership roles in the human helping professions who seek a balanced education of spirit, mind and body. We’re committed to continuing our top tier excellence.”
U.S. News annually ranks all accredited colleges and universities in the nation by several key measures of quality, giving its greatest weight to the opinions of college leaders in positions to judge other schools’ undergraduate academic excellence. Other key measures include graduation and retention rates, faculty resources, student selectivity, financial resources, and alumni giving.
U.S. News ranks institutions within classifications developed by the Carnegie Commission on Higher Education. Springfield College is classified within Master’s Colleges and Universities, which includes institutions that award bachelor’s degrees, plus at least 50 master’s degrees and fewer than 20 doctoral degrees annually. U.S. News further divides that classification into four regions: north, south, midwest and west.
