Springfield College Board Of Trustees Elects Griggs, Blake, Coupe As Officers

SPRINGFIELD, Mass., May 21, 2008 -- The Springfield College Board of Trustees elected Sally M. Griggs, of Northampton, Mass., as chair, and Douglass L. Coupe, of Bluffton, S.C., as secretary, at its annual meeting, May 16, 2008, on the campus, the college announced today. Helen Davis Blake, of Somers, Conn., and Stuart, Fla., was reelected vice chair.

Griggs succeeds James E. Walsh, of East Longmeadow, Mass., who will remain a board member.

In announcing the elections, Springfield College President Richard B. Flynn said, “Sally Griggs, Doug Coupe, and Helen Blake bring strong experience in community service, business and education to the helm of our board. Their expertise and longtime service to the college will be valuable as we conclude our fund-raising campaign and advance the college in educating tomorrow’s leaders.”

Griggs, a longtime community volunteer, is a member of the Clarke School for the Deaf/Oral Education Center Board of Trustees and of the Hampshire Regional YMCA Board of Directors. She is also a member of the Cooley Dickinson Hospital Development Committee.

A Springfield College Board of Trustees member since 1999, Griggs has been board secretary for two years. She is a member of the Audit and Compliance Committee, Committee on Trustees, Executive Committee, Institutional Advancement Committee, and Student Affairs Committee. She is a graduate of Vassar College.

Coupe, who is the retired vice president of State Street Global Investor Services, has been a trustee of the college for 13 years. He earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees and certificate of advanced studies at Springfield College.

Blake, a retired biochemist and mathematics teacher, is co-chair of Leadership for the 21st Century: The Campaign for Springfield College, and has been a member of the Springfield College Board of Trustees for 19 years. A graduate of Bates College, she earned her master’s degree at Springfield College and completed advanced study at Worcester Polytechnic Institute.

Newly elected to the Springfield College Board of Trustees was Jeffrey Levy, of Suffern, N.Y., who is president and chief executive officer of Railworks Corp. He also is a board member of Kinetics Holdings, LLC; a director of New York Building Congress; and a member of the City College of New York (CCNY) School of Engineering Advisory Board. A graduate of CCNY, he earned his master of business administration degree at New York University.

Also elected were Dr. Thomas Marks, of Derry, N.H.; Susan Lundin, of New Hartford, Conn.; and H. Todd Stitzer, of London, England, who had all previously served on the Springfield College Board of Trustees. Marks is an orthopedic surgeon; Lundin is residential manager, State of Connecticut Department of Developmental Services; and Stitzer is chief executive officer, Cadbury Schweppes.

Reelected to the board of trustees were Springfield College alumni Peter Andruskiewicz, of West Hartford., Conn., who is senior vice president of marketing, sales, service and administration for the regions outside of California of Kaiser Foundation Health Plan; Norman Chambers, of Houston, Texas, who is chairman, president and chief executive officer of NCI Building Systems; and John (Jack) Lund, of New York, N.Y., who is president and chief executive officer of the YMCA of Greater New York.

Elected student trustee was Benjamin Cannon, of Lowell, Mass., a third-year student whose major field of study is youth development.
