Hillary Clinton Speaks On U.S. Economy at Springfield College
SPRINGFIELD, Mass., Jan. 28, 2008 – “It’s good to be back at Springfield College,” Senator Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y., told a capacity crowd in Blake Arena today. “I know that Springfield College is the birthplace of basketball!”
Clinton chose Springfield College as the site of her Western Mass. address on the nation’s economy. Introduced by Rep. Richard E. Neal, D-Mass., Clinton entered the arena of cheering students, faculty, staff and visitors from throughout the region to the strains of campaign theme songs, “Taking Care of Business," “Working Nine to Five,” and “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough.”
Speaking from a mid-court platform, Clinton advanced her views on key issues in her campaign for the Democratic Party nomination for president of the United States. She discussed healthcare, education, college affordability, jobs creation, renewable energy, governmental reform, family medical leave, equal pay for equal work, long term care, Social Security, the war in Iraq, veterans’ services, and foreign relations.
According to Springfield College Vice President for Academic Affairs Jean A. Wyld, Ph.D., "Springfield College is pleased to be the site of an address by a major candidate for the United States presidency. We encourage our students to be informed voters, critical thinkers, and active participants in our nation's democracy.”
This was Clinton’s second visit to Springfield College. In 1994, she toured the College’s Child Development Center.
