Free Fitness, Health Tests
at Springfield College Fit Fest
SPRINGFIELD, Mass., April 3, 2007 -- Take free tests to learn your percentage of body fat or driving reaction time; see a video analysis of your squat thrust effectiveness; learn dry land techniques to improve your swimming; get tips on your golf putt; have your facial skin analyzed and more at the Springfield College Fit Fest, Thursday, April 5, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
More than two dozen other exhibits and activities will address how to achieve personal wellness. They include: nourishing the brain; examining breast and testicular health; analyzing diet; assessing flexibility, ability and balance; and more. There will be screenings for blood pressure, cholesterol and glucose. Instructors will teach rugby and rappelling. Students will compete in the Springfield College King Fit and Queen Fitness through a bench press, agility course, vertical jump, and 1.5 mile run.
Students and faculty members in a variety of health and education fields of study and campus clubs have designed the day in conjunction with the college’s longstanding emphasis on exercise and fitness and its increased commitment to personal wellness initiatives. First year students are now required to take the course, Wellness as a Way of Life, including pre and post assessments. The college also added a department of campus recreation in 2005 to serve students, faculty and staff.
