Chris Sharpe Receives Melberger Award
A captain of the football team, Sharpe led the Pride in all major offensive categories in 2006, breaking six NCAA Division III records and 12 Springfield records in the process. Chris finished the year with a Springfield rushing record and NCAA Division III rushing record for QB's with 1,941 yards. He also set an NCAA Division III record for QB's of 35 rushing touchdowns, smashing the old record of 20.
Sharpe led Springfield to a 10-2 final record, an Empire 8 Conference co-championship, an automatic NCAA Division III tournament berth, and to the second round of the NCAA Tourney.
Sharpe is a business management major, maintaining a 3.14 GPA, and is also captain of the Springfield College men's lacrosse team. He represented Springfield College as a student-athlete at the 2006 NCAA Leadership Conference in Orlando. He is also a member of Springfield's Athletic Advisory Committee and Community Service Committee. Sharpe hopes one day to start his own business or coach football or lacrosse when he graduates in 2008.
The award is named for Clifford K. Melberger, captain of the 1960 Lambert Cup-winning Bucknell University Bisons of Lewisburg, Pa., and who is Chairman and President of Diversified Information Technologies of Scranton, Pa.
