SC Names David Braverman VP For Student Affairs, Dean Of Students

SPRINGFIELD, Mass., June 10, 2005 -- Springfield College has named David G. Braverman, dean of students at Texas A&M University - Kingsville, to become its vice president for student affairs and dean of students effective Aug. 1, 2005.

In announcing the appointment, Springfield College President Richard B. Flynn said, “Dr. Braverman brings a rich mix of experience in supporting the educational, social, and personal development of students, and in fostering community spirit within an institution of higher education. His leadership will be important to the vitality of our campus environment in helping students to achieve their goals.”

Braverman will be Springfield College’s chief campus officer for student living and learning outside the classroom. He will oversee student activities, support services, and residential life. He also will be responsible for the disciplinary process, as well as services for student health, counseling, and career support. The college offers more than 50 student clubs and opportunities for involvement, and houses more than 1,900 undergraduate students in 10 campus residence halls.

Braverman became dean of students at Texas A&M University - Kingsville in February 2002, after having been associate vice president for student affairs at California State University, Sacramento. Prior to that, he was dean of students at Culver-Stockton College and, previously, assistant dean of Richmond College at the University of Richmond.

Braverman has delivered numerous presentations to professional groups in the student affairs area, and has been a contributing author to several professional publications in his field.
