Dick Gregory, Civil Rights Comedian and Activist, Speaks at Springfield College
Dick Gregory, the African-American comedian and civil right activist who was on the frontline in the American Civil Rights Movement of the 1960s, spoke at a student forum on Feb. 1 in Appleton Auditorium of Fuller Arts Center.Gregory's social satire changed the way many Americans perceived African-American comedians, and his activism continued into the 1990s. At the Springfield College program, sponsored by the Office of Multicultural Affairs, he also served as facilitator for a discussion on the issues of diversity, poverty, and racism.
Gregory's visit to the Springfield area was also sponsored by Unity First and by Springfield Technical Community, Western New England, and Westfield State colleges, where he also spoke.
