SPRINGFIELD, Mass., Nov. 24, 2003 -- Schola Nova, the choral group devoted exclusively to performing sacred choral literature, will present “Sing We of Christmas!” a selection of familiar and lesser known holiday music spanning the Renaissance through today, on Sunday, December 7, at 7:30 p.m., in Springfield College’s Marsh Memorial Chapel.
Michael Dulac, founder of Schola Nova, will conduct harpist Carol Emmnauel and pianist Edith Gilbertson playing “A Ceremony of Carols” by the English composer Benjamin Britten. Based on carols and Christmas poems of the 16th century, ”A Ceremony of Carols” was originally scored for trebles (boys), but Schola Nova will perform it with women’s voices.
Schola Nova has provided music for liturgy and concerts of sacred vocal music throughout the Pioneer Valley, the Berkshires, and the Worcerster area, and at St. Joseph’s Cathedral, Hartford.
