College Awarded Grant To Support On-Campus Diversity Education
SPRINGFIELD, Mass., Sept. 10, 2003 --The National Collegiate Athletic Association has awarded a $7,000 grant to Springfield College to support a program to place student-athletes in the forefront of on-campus diversity education. The multi-year program is titled "Diversity is The Person Sitting Next to You: A Student-led Initiative to Raise Awareness and Encourage Respecting Differences." The College's athletic department plans to show how differences related to culture, ethnicity, gender, and sexual orientation can unite rather than divide. The effort will involve the College's more than 800 student-athletes and approximately 74 athletics department staff members in College-wide programming.Recent Headlines
