Early Childhood: Teacher of Students with/without Disabilities, (PreK-2)Students seeking licensure in Early Childhood Education at Springfield College major in psychology with prescribed courses which address the theories, concepts and methods of assessing physical, emotional, intellectual and social development of young children with and without disabilities
Springfield College requires students seeking licensure in Early Childhood Education to take up to 60 credits of prescribed arts and science courses which relate to the subject matter knowledge of the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks.
In addition to majoring in psychology and taking a rich variety of arts and science courses, the third component of our program in Early Childhood Education is professional preparation coursework in education. Each course includes opportunities to try out theory through practice. Fieldwork experiences are embedded in each education course giving our students the opportunity to “learn while doing.” They complete 35 semester hours of coursework in reading research, theory, and practice, curriculum methods in math, science, and social studies, as well as closely supervised fieldwork experiences in which candidates can create meaningful, challenging learning experiences for all young children, across and within content areas and academic subjects.
