Educational Advisory Committee Student Members

Special thanks to Albert Koonson and Cristina Rivera for serving as the student members of the Educational Advisory Committee.

The purpose of the Educational Advisory Committee is to provide consultation when a student is in jeopardy of not completing the academic or field requirements of the M.S.W. Program. The committee makes decisions regarding how and whether or not students may complete the requirements of the program. More information is available in the Student Handbook.

In the spring of each year, students submit articles for review by faculty who teach in the content areas of the article. For fair and impartial reviewing, the name of the writer was removed from the submission piece for the review process.

The goals of the journal are to demonstrate the breadth of practice approached and theories that the advanced generalist social work practitioner employs as well as to give students the opportunity to publish their writing.

Study Abroad Program Bridges SSW and the Beijing Center for Chinese Studies

SSW Study Abroad Michelle Bicking '11 traveled to Beijing this summer as part of a study abroad program held at the Beijing Center for Chinese Studies. The program centered on global aging, but also offered the chance to learn about Chinese history and culture, the role of the Chinese government in state politics, and the chance to visit many historical and beautiful sites. All College Graduate Scholarships (ACGS) Awarded to Michelle Bicking and Chris O’Connell

All College Graduate Scholarships (ACGS) Awarded to Michelle Bicking and Chris O’Connell SSW is happy to congratulate Michelle Bicking '11 and Chris O’Connell '11, for being selected to receive the ACGS. Each year a limited number of scholarships are awarded. These awards are made on a competitive basis and are designed to fund partial tuition expenses for the next academic year at Springfield College. Recipients must be enrolled in a graduate degree program and are expected to take at least 9 semester hours during the term(s) in which they utilize the scholarship. The criteria for selection include academic achievement as well as personal accomplishments and professional promise. Candidates are separated into two groups: new and returning students. Each group is reviewed by faculty representatives. Once reviews are completed, the candidates are ranked. The top two applicants in each group are offered 18 semester hours of tuition remission.
