Undergraduate Program: Elementary and Special Education

Elementary, (1-6); Teacher of students with
moderate disabilities, (PK-8)

The four year program is designed to prepare students to teach both elementary and special education. The program is structured so that students meet the subject matter knowledge requirements for both licenses and develop knowledge of the appropriate learning standards in the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks.

All students pursuing elementary and special education teacher licensure through Springfield College are required to take 60 semester hours of arts and science courses. Many of these courses meet the general education requirements currently in place at the college while others have been specifically planned to meet the subject matter knowledge requirements for licensure. In order to facilitate completion of both teacher licensure programs in four years, it is recommended that students major in one of the following:
