Assistive Technology Program and Adaptive Workstation
The Assistive Technology Program provides a range of assistive technology software and is available to students, faculty, and staff. Students may use this assistive technology for specific accommodative testing or study purposes. Although this technology is available to all students, first priority will be given to students with documented disabilities.The primary location of these software programs is the Academic Success Center with additional assistive technology workstations in the Open Lab of Babson Library and in the Brennan Center. The Adaptive Workstation, located in the Academic Success Center, utilizes computing equipment to assist learners of all backgrounds and abilities with their academic endeavors.
Dragon Naturally-Speaking
Dragon Naturally-Speaking is a speech recognition program, which allows users to dictate, and have their words immediately transcribed onto the screen and document. A dictation playback capability allows users to play back a recording of what they said in their own voice. This program may be especially beneficial to students with learning disabilities and physical disabilities.
Kurzweil 3000
Kurzweil 3000 is scanning software with speech output. This unique program allows students to scan pages or even chapters of text into the computer and then have the scanned pages read back to them. This program may be particularly beneficial to students with visual impairments or learning disabilities.
Zoom Text Xtra
Zoom Text Xtra is a software program designed to assist students with visual impairments. This software integrates magnification and screen reading to provide access to printed material.
Inspiration
Inspiration is a visual learning tool designed to help students organize their writing. Students may use concept maps, webs and other graphical organizers to develop ideas and organize thinking. Designed to improve writing from start to finish, this program can be useful to all students. Trainings and workshops are available by appointment.
eClipseReader
eClipseReader Plus is a software program utilized to read digitalized text. eClipseReader offers study tools allowing students to bookmark, take notes, and create study guide outlines. eClipseReader provides self-voicing graphic interface or a keyboard interface for either visually impaired or sighted users.
