INTERNSHIPS

GRADUATE INTERN  Seeking graduate student in either the Student Personnel Administration Masters Program or Industrial/Organizational Psychology Masters Program to work as a paid intern in the Bay Path College Career Services Office for the 2008-09 academic year.  The position would be available from late August 2008-May 2009 and requires 12-15 hours per week of availability.  Candidates must be available to work 30-40 hours per week during the month of January 2009 for preparation and involvement in a career program. Candidates must have strong computer skills, strong statistical and analytical skills, excellent interpersonal and communication skills, good customer service skills, general office skills, good time management skills, and strong organizational skills.

INTERNSHIPS WITH THE FOOD BANK of Western Massachusetts. 
Advocacy Internship working on projects related to macro policy change at the state and federal levels, as well as local grassroots and national advocacy initiatives dedicated to increasing community food security. Flexible hours. Conversant in Spanish or Russian a plus.  Stipend offered and mileage reimbursement for field work.  Academic credit can be arranged. Most work will take place in the Hatfield, MA office.
Agency Services Intern will work in the department responsible for supporting 400+ Food Bank member agencies. Most work will take place in the Hatfield, MA office.  Conversant in Spanish or Russian a plus.  Flexible hours. Most work will take place in the Hatfield, MA office. 
Brown Bag Survey Volunteer Assist department with administrative, and clerical tasks.  Spanish language skills and events planning a plus. Work 4-20 hours/week.  Paid for mileage from one food bank site to another. 
Communications Internship work 15-20 hours/week.  The intern will perform primary functions in the areas of media relations, publications production, writing and editing, and web site maintenance. Unpaid.
Human Resources Internship 10 hours/week. Assist with research and development related to all human resources activities. Unpaid.

SUMMER YOUTH OBESITY PREVENTION PROGRAM  at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical center. Paid summer position working with youth in an obesity prevention program. Specific Responsibilities:  Report directly to Manager of Community Health, Bowdoin Street Health Center • Assist program coordinator with managing three program youth counselors • Participate in all sports activities throughout the program and engage program participants in activities including, but not limited to: soccer, basketball, softball, kickball, double-dutch, dance, tennis, golf and swimming • Learn the athletic strengths and weaknesses of each youth  counselor and program participant to better assist them in their development of athletic skills • Report any issues of concern amongst youth counselors and program participants that may require problem solving to the supervisor • Develop and seek opportunities for interaction between youth and staff • Work with program participants so that each individual experiences success during the program • Prepare for and actively participate in staff trainings, meetings and supervision. • Set a good example for youth counselors and program participants and others, including all interaction with other staff, punctuality, sharing clean-up and  sportsmanship • Follow program rules and regulations pertaining to smoking, use of alcoholic beverages and use of drugs • Encourage respect for personal property, program equipment, and facilities • Maintain good rapport with parents of program participants • Enforce program safety regulations and conduct rules put in place by the Youth Sports Health Coordinator Qualifications: Experience in sports important. CITIZEN TEACHER VOLUNTEERS Share what you know and love with the children of Springfield! Any individual or group with skills to share with young people aged 11-14.  Teach your profession or hobby in after-school apprenticeships. No teaching experience is necessary. All Citizen Schools volunteers receive intensive training and are supported by a full-time, professional educator every step of the way. Lawyers turn their apprentices into prosecutors, artists cultivate young muralists, and engineers lead students into becoming inventors. ADMINISTRATIVE INTERNSHIP A part-time, ten-month internship with stipend ($18,700) is offered for current or recent graduate students interested in pursuing a career in education administration with academic or professional credentials in an accredited education or education administration program or school. The Administrative Intern will work closely with the schools’ After School Director in a high-energy, fast-paced environment. They will be responsible for supporting the in-class activities of the program’s Teaching Interns, developing and executing program wide activities and assist in the administration of the After School Program. Interns should expect to apply many facets of their pedagogical, developmental, curricular, behavioral and administrative training while working in a program for Nursery – Grade Eight students. INTERNSHIPS IN PRODUCTION AND BROADCAST JOURNALISM with the Institute for Humane Studies. Two paid fall internship programs for students interested in gaining experience in production and broadcast journalism. These internships are open to all majors and previous experience is not required. Applicants should have a passion for the principles and ideas of liberty.
IHS Broadcast Journalism Internships - This program offers hands-on radio or broadcast journalism internships with an experienced producer at a major media network or news production house. We’ve placed interns at CNN in Atlanta, ABC’s 20/20 in Manhattan, Fox News in Los Angeles, and MSNBC, among others. All placements include a stipend and housing allowance. IHS Production Internships - An excellent opportunity to spend the Fall shadowing an experienced producer at a busy production company, shooting film, working on video game animation, or building up your screenwriting skills. In the past, interns have been placed at such production companies as Warner Bros., Focus Features, and Hero Pictures. All placements include a stipend and housing allowance. SCIENCE INTERN Pomfret School, a small boarding and day school in northeastern CT, seeks a science teaching intern for the 2008-2009 school year. Pomfret offers a dynamic science program grounded by the core disciplines of Physics, Chemistry and Biology. As currently envisioned, the intern will teach chemistry, teaming with a master-level teacher to build an inquiry-based classroom and to design powerful laboratory experiences for second-year science students. RESEARCH & INNOVATION INTERN  Boston, Massachusetts, 02108. The Crittenton Women’s Union transforms the course of low-income women’s lives so that they can attain economic independence and create better futures for themselves and their families. Research and Innovation is dedicated to understanding what it takes to reach economic self-sufficiency, and using that knowledge to inform program design and social change. Research and Innovation works directly with our clients and direct-care staff to conduct qualitative and quantitative research studies to learn more about the clients we serve, research and benchmark best practices, analyze policies, formulate and launch new programs, and develop and analyze outcomes. This is a great opportunity for someone to learn how to apply research skills in a community based setting and receive guidance and mentoring from senior researchers. We have several projects that we are currently recruiting for. They include:  A field work based qualitative study of how low income families make decisions around work and social supports, specifically analyzing the effects of social support eligibility requirements and client progress toward self-sufficiency.  Developing a series of Fact Sheets based on academic research and data analysis on topics relevant to low income and homeless families on issues such as, education, housing, poverty rates and obstacles to self-sufficiency.   Workforce research on careers for women with pathways to self-sufficiency.  Program evaluation research on CWU’s housing, family support, and domestic violence programs toward creating best practices. SUMMER STUDY INTERNSHIP PROGRAM  during the first six weeks of this 12-week program, students take two academic summer courses chosen from one of eight tracks, earning eight credits.  The final six weeks of the program, BU places each individual in a relevant, professional internship at a Boston-based, U.S.-based, or multinational firm or organization.  Student also enroll in a two-credit Internship Course, while ongoing workshops led by faculty and internship advisors build skills in resume writing and interviewing.  By the end of the program, students earn a total of 10 semester credits.  Summer Program Tracks:  Arts and Culture, Business and Management, Film and Media Studies, Graphic and Web Design, International Studies, Politics and Public Policy, Psychology and Social Policy, Self-Designed Track.
