Springfield College Main Campus Weather Emergency Notification

When inclement weather necessitates that the main campus of Springfield College closes, cancels, or delays events, the College undertakes the following forms of notification.

For the School of Social Work, closures, cancellations, or delays are posted on the School's home page.

For the School of Human Services, closures, cancellations, or delays are posted on individual campus home pages of the School of Human Services. A phone message is also recorded on the affected campus location's phone system.

College Closing, Cancellation or Delay of Classes:


1. SC Alert
    This program sends emergency notifications to a person's mobile phone, Blackberry, wireless PDA, pager, smart or satellite phones, and e-mail addresses, including "pop ups" to Google, Yahoo, or AOL members. Students, faculty, and staff may sign up by clicking on the SC Alert button on the College's home page and following the links.
2. Springfield College Weather Emergency Telephone (413) 748-5999
    A recorded message contains the latest information.
3. Springfield College Web site www.springfieldcollege.edu
    A homepage banner contains the latest information.
4. Western Massachusetts and Connecticut television and radio stations
    The following broadcast media receive notice of Springfield College cancellations or delays:
    Radio -- WHYN, KIX, WAQY, WMAS, WRNX, WHMP, WTIC, WHCN, WELI
    Television -- WWLP-TV 22, WGGB-TV40, WSHM-TV3, and WFSB-TV3.
5. Springfield College Campus Television Channel 2
    Information is posted.

    The Athletics Hotline can be reached at (413) 748-3987 for emergency notifications.

Timing:


Early morning:
    The College makes every effort to determine if a closing or cancellation is necessary by 5 a.m. and to institute notification immediately. Notifications 1-3 above are usually in place by 5:15 a.m. Broadcast media usually post the information shortly after that. Campus Television Channel 2 posts information by 6 a.m.
Mid-day:
    The above forms of notification are instituted immediately upon the College's decision to close, cancel, or delay classes or events. Additionally, a message is sent in campus e-mail to faculty and staff.
