Mr. Joseph Phillips
General Manager
Healthy You Fitness, Inc.
Dustin, CO 33404

Dear Mr. Phillips,

I have been interested in working for Healthy You Fitness for some time now because I consider it the premier fitness training facility in the Denver area. My goal is to work in a highly professional environment where every member is valued and the focus is on helping each person achieve his or her individual fitness goals. I believe I possess the skills and experience you are looking for in the personal trainers you hire to be a part of your team.

I have recently completed my undergraduate degree in Exercise Science at Springfield College and have become a certified personal trainer (ACE). Through my internship at HealthTrax I gained confidence in my ability to create and lead group exercise classes and to design individualized fitness programs for members. I initiated a new exercise class called Power Up, an upper body strengthening program. I assisted in designing and marketing the class, and taught it three times per week. Interest in the class grew by word of mouth and the class size doubled within the first three months. I possess excellent interpersonal skills which allow me to develop positive rapport with members by listening to their needs and concerns, and encouraging them through each stage of their program. My strong communication skills not only impact club members, but colleagues, visitors, and student interns as well.

My studies in Exercise Science have given me a comprehensive understanding of anatomy, kinesiology, management concepts in sport and fitness settings, worksite wellness, fitness assessment and prescription, and stress testing. I have also taken courses related to fitness for special populations including the elderly and the disabled. Through my coursework and fieldwork experiences, I feel very competently trained to work with members of all ages and fitness levels. I enjoy continual learning and will take advantage of educational opportunities to stay current with new trends and research in the exercise science field so that I can best serve the members of Healthy You Fitness.

Thank you for considering me for a position at Healthy You Fitness. As a reliable and energetic new professional, I will bring strong fitness training skills and a positive attitude to your staff. I will contact you within two weeks to confirm your receipt of my application materials and to learn more about your timeline for hiring. I look forward to the opportunity to interview for this position.

Sincerely,

Sally Adams

Mary Shea
Rehabilitation Manager
Essex Park Rehabilitation and Nursing Center
265 Essex Street
Beverly, MA 01915

Dear Ms. Shea:

As I begin my career as an occupational therapist, my goal is to affiliate with a dynamic subacute and long term care facility whose mission is to increase the independence and quality of life of their clients. Ann Aberin, a HealthBridge Management talent recruiter at the recent Woburn Healthcare Job Fair, encouraged me to contact you.

In browsing Essex Park’s home page, I was very impressed by its specialized programs, experienced and dedicated staff, and commitment to high quality care. My clinical internships, encompassing the complex medical, cognitive, and orthopedic diagnoses of a subacute skilled nursing facility and the focused musculo-skeletal injuries of an outpatient rehabilitation clinic, provide a broad background well suited for Essex Park’s clinical rehabilitation needs. In addition, previous experience teaching yoga and providing therapeutic massage at a health spa, and training in the Feldenkrais method, bring to my occupational therapy practice communication, education, and client rapport skills.

Over the past year, while preparing for the national board exam and obtaining a license to practice, I have managed the daily care of an elderly family member with dementia. During this time, I introduced a daily reminder journal, established a regular walking routine, improved nutrition and normalized body weight, and increased participation in personal hygiene, cooking, and enjoyed activities. This experience not only reinforced my interest in working with the elderly, but has broadened my awareness of both the professional and family centered issues of this population.

I would welcome the opportunity for an interview and to further discuss my qualifications for an occupational therapy position with Essex Park. I will contact you within the week to verify receipt of my resume. Thank you for your consideration.

Sincerely,

Terry Rice

Washington, D.C. 20036

Dear Director:

I’m writing in reference to your post on Idealist.org regarding an opening for a Program Assistant-Gender & HIV. I am currently working as a consultant for the UN World Food Programme (WFP) in the Women, Children and Gender Service, and see this opening as an excellent next step that would allow me to build on prior experience and pursue my passion for international development and women’s issues.

I am impressed by and interested in ICRW’s work, and excited to see that a number of your recent reports deal with the issues I have found most compelling during my time with WFP. My year with WFP’s Women, Children and Gender Service has given me a background in the challenges of mainstreaming gender in international development policy. A major part of my responsibilities in recent months has been researching and reporting on WFP’s progress on gender mainstreaming over the past 15 years, analyzing sex-disaggregated data and policy evolution in preparation for the 15 year review of the Beijing Platform for Action. I am particularly interested in the impact of culture taboos and prejudices on people’s willingness to seek testing and care, and the way in which gender is reflected in these situations. ICRW’s work combines many of the issues which I am most interested in researching, and I would welcome an opportunity to pursue them further as part of your team.

In addition to experience researching and analyzing gender in development, my varied experience has provided me with experience in diverse administrative, event planning and knowledge sharing tasks which would be useful as a Project Assistant at ICRW.
  • >As a consultant at WFP, I managed the Gender Service’s transition to a new website and knowledge sharing system, identifying relevant materials, making updates as needed, and liaising with technical staff and the policy department representative.
  • At WFP, I have helped organize events in Rome and Cairo, taking into account the logistical needs of attendees from across the globe and coordinating three UN agencies.
  • As a campaign manager and as a consultant for American Group of Companies, I have organized and provided logistical support to conferences in the US and in Europe.
While I have had a wonderful experience with the World Food Programme (WFP), I am looking for an opportunity to take on more project management experience, and expand my skill set in the field. I look forward to further discussing this opportunity at your convenience.

Sincerely,

Melissa Harrington

Mr. Tim Foley
Youth Services Director
Riverside Family Services
Riverside, CA 94606

Dear Mr. Foley,

I was intrigued by the position description for the Youth Counselor Intern position I found on your website today. As a junior Psychology major at Springfield College, I am very interested in developing skills to work effectively with high-risk adolescents. After graduation, I wish to pursue a career in social services working with a similar population.

My coursework and summer work experience have prepared me well for this internship opportunity. I have taken several courses in the areas of child and adolescent development and counseling in multicultural environments. In addition, my community service work has given me exposure to societal issues regarding poverty, homelessness, and the effects that drug use and alcohol abuse have on the whole family. I feel passionate about my career choice where I will be able to provide services, education, and hope to young people who have lived in difficult family situations. This past summer I worked at Windsor Hills Camp in Portland, Oregon where I was the Activity Coordinator. I learned valuable skills in supervising youth, coordinating a daily schedule of activities, and working as a part of a team to provide a safe and fun environment. Providing a variety of structured activities as well as opportunities for creative, free play was the key to our success with the camp participants. Through the Partner’s Program at Springfield College I have had the most rewarding experience tutoring a third grade student from an inner city elementary school who struggles with reading. Not only do I feel that I have made a positive impact on this student academically, but socially too. We have time to play with the kids and take them to dinner in the campus dining hall every week so we have had the opportunity to build trust and a friendship over the past five months. I am eager to use the skills I have learned to assist the children in your program, and I am extremely interested in learning from your dedicated staff of counselors and assistants.

Thank you for considering me for the Youth Counselor Intern position. I am available at your convenience to meet for an interview.

Sincerely,

James Newman

Melissa Stark
Human Resource Administrator
Newton Public Schools 100 Maple Road
Newton, MA 01742

To Ms. Stark:

I am very interested in beginning my teaching career in a suburban school district that has a commitment to student learning and diversity. While browsing schoolsprings.com, I noticed Newton's posting for a Middle School Physical Education Teacher. I'm confident my education and work experiences have prepared me well for this position.

This past year I have been teaching physical education and health education at Lenox Middle/High School. I have had the opportunity to teach 6th through 12th grade in required physical education and health courses as well as an elective physical education course. Through both the required courses and the electives, I have had the opportunity to incorporated idealistic methodologies in a real-life setting. This has enabled me to evaluate the methodologies level of success and how to utilize them in an appropriate and effective manner. My time before and after school has been spent in two different programs connecting with students on an informal basis building relationships through the use of fitness and nutrition based activities. It is wonderful to see the students make the connection between what we learn in class and what they experience in both he before and after school programs.

In 2007 I completed my master’s of education in physical education from Springfield College. While at Springfield, I served as a graduate associate/instructor, where I had the opportunity to work in the teacher preparation program training and advising undergraduate students in physical education. My work as a graduate associate allowed me to gain a strong sense of physical education curriculum building and implementation. As a graduate student my coursework exposed me to new teaching strategies, styles, and models that expanded my teaching capabilities.

During my summer, I had opportunity to teach secondary students at an experiential education camp and through Project Adventure. One of my most memorable experiences while working with campers was helping a young girl experience the power of overcoming the seemingly impossible, with the help of others. By the end of camp she was able to rappel off a rock face she thought would be impossible. With her newfound confidence and the support of her leaders and fellow campers, she realized she was capable of not only rappelling but also facing many other “impossible” obstacles in life. This is one of many stories that give me a desire to work with middle school students. I feel my high energy and enthusiasm for students, coupled with my passion for physical education will be a good match for your school. I am confident in my ability to foster a positive learning environment in which students will have the ability to see their growth and recognition of physical education.

I am eager to speak with you about the contributions I can make to your physical education department and surrounding Newton community. Thank you for your time and consideration.

Sincerely,

Kate Smith

Mr. Lou Gorman
Director
Behavior Modification & Education Center
10160SM-37 Hwy
Lynn, MA 19050

Dear Mr. Gorman:

I am interested in the Instructor/Counselor position at the Behavior Modification and Education Center. I was informed of this job opening through The Job Seeker. My resume is attached for your consideration.

For the past two years I have been a volunteer for REAP (River Education and Awareness Program) at the Springfield Science Museum in Springfield, MA. While there I had the awesome opportunity to see students perform their first science experiments. The thrill of seeing their wonderment as the world broadens before their eyes is what has made me want to commit my life to an educational profession. I want to share my creativity, love of science and the environment with others. There is nothing like teaching without any walls and being able to give children the chance to perform hands-on work in that environment. The REAP program allowed me to gain invaluable experience both in and out of the classroom.

Over the past two months I have been traveling across the United States. I have visited and camped in many national and state parks. This experience was driven by my love of adventure and the environment. I have a strong passion to learn and share what I have learned with others. I am confident that my experiences and my personality would contribute greatly to you organization.

I am eager to speak with you about the contributions I am confident I can make at the Outdoor Education Center. I will contact you within the next week to see if a meeting can be arranged. You may contact me at any time at the number listed above.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Sincerely,

Mr. Alex Doubleday

Toronto Blue Jays
300 Bremner Ave.
Toronto, ON M5V 3B3

Dear Mr. Doubleday,

Our mutual friend, Mr. Harry Stewart, suggested that I contact you regarding a strengthening and conditioning internship with the Blue Jay organization. As my resume will illustrate, I possess practical knowledge and experience in two areas: cardiac rehabilitation and strengthening and conditioning. My background provides strong evidence of successful working relations in many environments and under ever-changing conditions.

My understanding of health fitness and how it relates to the physical condition of a team, stems from my experience as a student-athlete with the McGill University Football Team. As captain I led drills, built team morale and motivated my teammates. In addition, I was able to expand on my communication skills through press conferences, media relations, and public speaking engagements. Furthermore, my practicum experiences in both the commercial and corporate settings provided me the opportunity to apply my strong academic background to a variety of populations seeking to include welless into their lives.

I will contact you within the next week in order to confirm receipt of these documents and explore the possibility of scheduling an interview. I am confident that you will find my qualifications to be of interest. Thank you for your consideration.
