Greetings from Hong Kong!

First Day In China Greetings from Hong Kong! We have safely arrived to our first destination in China. For those of you keeping score at home, the journey took a total of 30.5 hours! We left from the P.E. complex at SC at 3:30 AM on Monday and arrived at our hotel in Hong Kong just a little while ago at 9:45 PM Tuesday evening. Since we have not done much yet in the way of educational / cultural events, I thought I would keep this entry brief and outline our trip so far.

The flights were excellent. Our departures from Hartford and D.C. were on time; there was a fuel issue in LAX, so we sat for an hour prior to leaving the gate. The flight from LAX to Hong Kong took 14.5 hours. We had a great time together on the flight; some people were able to get sleep, many had short workouts in corners of the plane, others played cards and read, and others made friends with passengers and flight crew from around the world. We all wore our “great ideas are born here” t-shirts, which drew a lot of attention. It was nice to see how proud everyone was to answer the many inquiries about the shirts. Once arriving in Hong Kong, we were picked up promptly by Emil from the travel agency who was nice enough to provide a “tour” on the way from the airport to the hotel. This gave us a basic idea of the landscape and important facts. Our hotel is beautiful and overlooks Victoria harbor. The skyline is amazing; many of the buildings have neon light patterns flashing, and even late in the evening there are a number of boats traveling through. We are all pretty exhausted from the trip, so it is off to rest for our first full day in Hong Kong! I hope to write again tomorrow.
