Policies & Procedures

WELLNESS CENTER POLICIES


General Policies

  • Full time Student, Faculty, & Staff are eligible to use the Wellness Center.
  • Springfield College ID’s are MANDATORY for facility use.
  • Always be courteous to others using the facility.
  • Appropriate attire is required. No open toed shoes are allowed. Shirts, shorts, sweats and athletic wear are to be worn at all times.
  • No food, beverages, alcohol, or tobacco products are allowed in the facility. Water bottles are permitted.
  • Books, bags, and other belongings must be placed in the storage compartments behind the Wellness Center desk. Campus Recreation is not responsible for any lost or stolen items.
  • It is strongly recommended that you warm-up prior to and cool-down after exercise.
  • If you are not familiar with a piece of equipment, please ask one of the Wellness Assistants at the desk to assist you to avoid possible injury.
  • Equipment should be only be used for its intended purpose.
  • Please report all injuries and any equipment concerns to a Wellness Center staff member.
  • The Wellness Center must be supervised by a staff member at all times.
  • Personal training that is not affiliated with Springfield College is not allowed.
  • All advertising materials, (flyers, banners, etc.) must be submitted to and approved by a professional staff member of the Campus Recreation Department.

Cardiovascular Equipment

  • Please limit yourself to 30 minutes on all cardiovascular equipment when there are participants waiting.
  • Please wipe off controls, seats, and railings of equipment when you have finished with your workout.
  • Please do not spray cleaning fluid directly on the equipment. Spray the paper towel first, and then wipe down the areas.

Selectorized Strength Machines

  • If you are performing multiple sets on a piece of equipment and someone is waiting, please allow them to work in with you.
  • Please wipe off the pads with disinfectant when you have finished using a piece of equipment.

Free Weight Area

  • Please do not drop or leave weights on the floor.
  • It is recommended to use a spotter or ask a Wellness Assistant for help with free weight exercises.
  • Weight collars must be used for all barbell exercises.
  • Please replace all dumbbells on the appropriate racks, in the assigned spaces when you have finished using them.
  • Please remove plates from bars and place them on the weight tree when you have finished using them.
  • The use of chalk is not permitted in any area of the Wellness Center.
  • Please do not drop the dumbbells on the floor. If they are too heavy to lower safely, then use a spotter to assist you.
  • The use of free weights outside of the free weight area is not permitted.
  • Please wipe off the bench pads with disinfectant when you have finished using a piece of equipment.

These policies are in place to ensure all participants a safe and enjoyable exercise environment and to keep our equipment in excellent working order.

PE Complex Policies

Hours of Operation:
Regular semester hours are:
  • Monday – Friday 11 am to 1 pm*
    (*faculty and staff only) 4 pm to 6 pm
  • The recreational hours are established and posted at the beginning of each semester, pending instructional schedules.
  • The hours are subject to change as appropriate staffing must be available.
