Employers

The Springfield College Career Center is committed to providing its students and alumni with fair and equitable access to experiential education experiences and professional employment opportunities. To ensure that students’ and alumni rights are upheld and that they have the opportunity to make well informed decisions, the Career Center has developed the following employer policies regarding on-campus recruiting, the scheduling of Information Tables and Information Sessions, the listing of internship and job opportunities in our on-line resources, and participation in college sponsored job/career fairs.

JOB/INTERNSHIP POSTINGS
  • Large and small businesses, educational systems, government and not-for–profit organizations offering full-time jobs may list opportunities on the Career Center’s on Job Etc. system at no cost. The Job Etc. posting system allows an employer to manage all components of the of the system including creation of an employer profile form with a self created username and password. Employers are able to post internship, full & part time vacancies, additionally, they have the capacity to edit, update, enable and change any of the information they have listed. All vacancies are archived indefinitely which allows the employer to edit and repost.

  • If you prefer, EEO compliant listings can also be mailed, emailed dianne_b_lyons@springfieldcollege.edu, phoned (413.748.3222/3110) or faxed (413.748.3022). All listings must identify the employing organization and provide complete and accurate contact information.

  • Internships, part-time and seasonal jobs and internship or fieldwork opportunities can similarly be forwarded via email to carol_leger@spfldcol.edu, phoned (413.748.3222/3110) or faxed (413.748.3022). Please submit all relevant information including qualifications, term, whether it is a paid or unpaid opportunity, application deadline, and complete contact information. All vacancy information including internships is posted on the Career Center's Jobs Etc. web site and searched by students, career counselors and faculty to locate appropriate student experiences.


      The NACE Principles of Conduct also apply to hiring and recruitment practices for these opportunities.

      ON-CAMPUS RECRUITING and INFORMATION SESSIONS/TABLES
      Organizations who are ineligible to participate in on campus recruiting or host Information Sessions or Information Tables include those organizations whose compensation is 100% commission, and those who require the candidate to pay a fee for training, equipment, application procedures or other job related expenses (this does not apply to federal and state licensing requirements such as real estate, securities, etc). Organizations that are based on a networking marketing paradigm will also be ineligible to participate in recruitment programs.

    • The Career Center will assist third party recruiters as long as the identity of the employer being represented and the types of positions for which the third party is recruiting are revealed to the Career Center and candidates, complies with federal and state EEO standards, and upholds the NACE Principles of Conduct. Third Party recruiters will not disclose to any employer, including the client-employer, any student information without obtaining prior written consent from the student.

    • Companies may pre-screen candidates based upon a review of resumes. Resumes can be forwarded in advance of the recruitment date. Consideration should be afforded to all candidates without regard to race, color, national origin, religion, age, gender, sexual orientation, or disability.

    • Greeters may accompany the designated company representative. Organizations are responsible for the ethical and legal conduct of their representatives throughout the recruiting process, and must assume responsibility for all representations made by authorized representatives.

    • Recruiters are expected to be as flexible as the recruitment process allows. High-pressure recruiting techniques are not acceptable. The serving of alcohol at any recruitment related event is not permissible.

    • Internship/ fieldwork opportunities are defined as experiential education opportunities where a student works on a project of importance to the organization, receives timely instruction and feedback from the supervisor, and has a mentor-like relationship with someone within the organization. Internships/fieldwork are approved and supervised by the designated faculty. The Career Center staff works on behalf of the students to develop opportunities and assist students in identifying and preparing for the experience. Internships /fieldwork may be paid or unpaid.

      The Career Center adheres to the National Association for Colleges & Employers (NACE) Principles for Professional Conduct and expects that employers will honor the code as well. If you would like more information on NACE please feel free to contact us or visit NACE’s web site www.jobweb.org

      CAREER/JOB FAIRS
    • Companies invited to attend job/career fairs will reflect the educational programs and professional interests of Springfield College students.
      · Employers participating in college sponsored fairs will comply with state and federal EEO standards and the NACE Principles for Professional Conduct

      SOLICITATION
    • In accordance with Springfield College policy no individual or organization may solicit services, products or opportunities without the permission of the Vice-president of Student Affairs. All flyers must be approved by the Student Activities & Campus Programs Office.

      The Career Center reserves the right to refuse services to employers due to any of the following: dishonesty; breach of confidentiality; fraud; misrepresentation; harassment of Springfield College students, alumni, staff; failure to adhere to these career center policies and/or other violation of Springfield College rules and regulations.
