February

H.I.I.T. It! Tabata Training (Wellness Workshop)
When: Wednesday, Feb. 1, 4 p.m.
Where: Wellness and Recreation Complex, Room 214
What: High-intensity interval training (H.I.I.T.) is one of the most effective calorie-burning exercise training systems. “Tabata” (you know you want to Google it) is one type of H.I.I.T. protocol that fitness professionals are raving about. Learn how to turn your body into a fat-burning machine with a 4 minute workout—H.I.I.T. It!

Late Night Luau (Wellness Event)
When: Friday, Feb. 10, 10 p.m.-1 a.m.
Where: Wellness and Recreation Complex, Field House
What: Hula over to the Field House and join us for a night at the beach where there will be:
beach volleyball, inflatable obstacle course, log roll competition, photo booth, island oasis slide, make your own Valentine, sandcastle building contest, relay races, snacks, prizes, and MORE!
Student ID needed for entry; guests welcome with SC student. First 100 in line receive a FREE t-shirt!

Intimacy’s Intricacies: Anonymous Q&A
When: Wednesday, Feb. 15, 8 p.m.
Where: International Hall Basement
What: In recognition of National Condom Month and Sexual Responsibilities Week, students can find answers to all their questions about intimacy, sex, and relationships by an expert panel of students, faculty, and staff. Questions will be submitted anonymously to the panel throughout the event.

No registration required.

Fit Fest (Wellness Event)
When: Tuesday, Feb. 21, 11 a.m.-2 p.m.
Where: Wellness and Recreation Complex, Field House
What: Join us for this fun and interactive health and wellness festival held in celebration of NIRSA’s Recreational Sport and Fitness Day! Participants will receive free t-shirts!

Love Your Body Week February 26-March 3 is National Eating Disorders Awareness Week. Join the Campus Recreation staff in a series of programs that will discuss body image, eating and exercise disorders, and how to feel comfortable in your own skin.

    • Monday, Feb. 27, 7 p.m.
    • Wellness and Recreation Complex, Room 150
    • Thin is a powerful documentary that follows four women in an eating disorder treatment facility. The film explores issues surrounding body image and eating disorders.

  • Body Awareness Yoga (free yoga mats for first 15 to register)
    • Tuesday, Feb. 28, 1 p.m.
    • Wellness and Recreation Complex, Room 214
    • In this yoga class, you will learn to listen to your body and focus on the physical sensations in yoga.

  • Mindful Eating for a Healthy Body
    • Wednesday, Feb. 29, 4:30 p.m.
    • Wellness and Recreation Complex, Room 150
    • Do you find yourself eating too quickly or mindlessly? Mindful eating a technique that helps us slow down and enjoy our food.

March

Staying Healthy Over Spring Break (Wellness Seminar)
When: Monday, March 5, 4:30 p.m.
Where: Wellness and Recreation Complex, Room 150
What: Whether you are taking a vacation or lounging at home this spring break, this seminar will talk about various ways you can stay safe and healthy. From travel safety tips to ways to stay active without a fitness facility, a variety of topics will be discussed. Registered participants will receive a “spring break kit,” which will include sunscreen, condoms, lube, bandaids, hand sanitizer, and more.

Indoor Triathlon (Wellness Event)
When: Wednesday, March 7, 12-3 p.m.
Where: Wellness and Recreation Complex, Various Locations
What: Swim, run, and bike with us this spring! Whether you’re looking for a little competition or just want to have some fun and try something new, this is a triathlon in which everyone can participate. Faculty/staff will compete in one division and students in another. Course: Swim 10 minutes in the natatorium pool (10 minute transition), bike 10 minutes on a spin bike (5 minute transition), and run 10 minutes on the Field House track. Performance is measured by the distance covered in each of the 3 waves. The top 3 female and top 3 male finishers in each division will receive medals. (“Relay” option available upon request.) Participants who register early will receive a t-shirt! Register by Friday, February 24.

TRX: Suspension Training (Wellness Workshop)
When: Tuesday, March 20, 7 p.m.
Where: Wellness and Recreation Complex, Fitness Area 1
What: Join certified personal trainers to learn about the fitness fad TRX suspension training. Using just your body weight, the TRX will allow you to do a multitude of challenging and effective exercises. Register early, as space is limited to 10 participants.

Late Night at the Rec (Wellness Event)
When: Friday, March 23, 10 p.m.-3 a.m.
Where: Wellness and Recreation Complex, Various Locations
What: Have some late night energy to burn? Let it out at the Wellness & Recreation Complex! Get a run in, lift some weights, climb the rock wall, or participate in our specially scheduled ab lab, indoor cycling, and yoga classes! Don’t want to work out? Head into the Field House where we will have inflatables, games, arts & crafts, competitions, and intramurals burning the midnight oil! We will have themed hours and prizes – so keep checking back as we update the schedule for the night.

April

Functional Movement Screen (Wellness Workshop)
When: Tuesday, April 10, 4:30 p.m.
Where: Wellness and Recreation Complex, Room 213
What: The Functional Movement Screen (FMS) is a ranking and grading system that helps individuals identify functional limitations and asymmetries. Using the information from the FMS, exercise professionals can prescribe exercises that will be most effective to restore proper movement and build strength. Personal trainers will perform some of the tests on participants.

Wellness Screening Day (Wellness Event)
When: Wednesday, April 18, 11 a.m.-3 p.m.
Where: Wellness and Recreation Complex, Wellness Resource Room
What: Participants may stop by the Wellness Resource Room from 11 a.m.- 3 p.m. for wellness screenings. Screenings will include blood pressure, body composition, and resting heart rate measurements. Personal trainers and exercise science students will take the measurements and report your results and ratings immediately. Screenings will take about 10 minutes. Registration is preferred, but walk-ins are welcome.

Self Defense Common Sense (Wellness Seminar)
When: Monday, April 23, 7 p.m.
Where: Wellness and Recreation Complex, Room 213
What: In recognition of Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention Month, Campus Police officers will teach female students how to protect themselves from assault and other dangerous situations.

Fit for Finals (Wellness Seminar)
When: Thursday, April 26, 4:30 p.m.
Where: Wellness & Recreation Complex, Room 150
What: Are you overwhelmed with exams, papers, and grades during finals week? Join us in a seminar focused on stress relief techniques and taking care of your body during a stressful time. Registered participants will receive a free stress relief kit!

Stress Relief Day (Wellness Event)
When: Monday, April 30, 12-5 p.m.
Where: Wellness & Recreation Complex, Second Floor Lobby
What: Take a quick break from studying and relieve some stress with us. Activities such as chair massages, make your own body scrubs and stress balls, aromatherapy and much more will be offered.

No registration required.
