Springfield College High School Soccer Team Camp for Boys

Philosophy

The camp will provide high school teams with a chance to practice and compete under the tutelage of a college coach. The camp will prepare the team technically, tactically, psychologically, and socially for the season ahead. We can tailor the program to meet the specific demands of your team, please contact Assistant Head Coach Matt Edwards to specify any requests you may have.

Camp Directors

High School Team Camp Peter Haley
Head Coach, Springfield College

Only the seventh coach in a rich soccer tradition dating back to 1906, Peter Haley '77 G '78 will be entering his twenty-fourth season of coaching at his alma mater in the fall of 2008. Haley, who earned both a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in physical education at Springfield College, currently serves as an associate professor in the physical education teacher preparation program. A veteran of twenty-seven years on the college soccer circuit, Haley has amassed over 200 wins during his impressive tenure. He was voted the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Coach of the Year in 1999 after leading the Pride to its first NEWMAC title and the program’s first appearance in the NCAA Tournament in twenty-five years. The 1999 squad finished with an overall mark of 15-6. Haley, the first of only two players in the program’s history to be named a team captain three times, continues to emphasize player development through hard work, dedication, and discipline both on and off the playing field. He holds both his Advanced National Diploma from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) and his B License from USA Soccer. Prior to his return to Springfield College, Haley was the head men's and women's coach at the University of the South in Sewanee, Tennessee.

Matt Edwards
Associate Head Coach, Springfield College

Currently serving his second year with the program, Edwards arrived at Springfield College from Southampton Football Club in England where he served as academy coach. During his time at Southampton, Edwards worked with the U13 and U14 teams and also assisted with the video analysis for the U18 team. Edwards successfully completed his undergraduate degree in sports science with a concentration in coaching science from the University College Chichester. While in England, Edwards completed his UEFA B license, The FA Youth Coaches License, SAQ diploma and NCF certificate in coaching. While at Springfield College, Edwards is completing a masters program in advanced level coaching and has completed the NSCAA National and Advanced National diplomas.

Dale Jordan
Assistant Coach, Springfield College

Jordan completed his undergraduate degree in exercise science during that time he also completed his UEFA B license. Having represented Ireland at the youth level, Jordan went on to play for Penn State under former NSCAA president Barry Gorman. Jordan then served as a director for Coast 2 Coast Soccer Academy based in California. Back in Ireland, Jordan served as a fitness consultant for several professional soccer teams and also coached an adult amateur team. While at Springfield College, Jordan will complete a master's degree in sport management.

Loy Urbina
Assistant Coach, Springfield College

Urbina is regarded as one of New Jersey’s top youth coaches. He is a long term member of the NJ ODP coaching staff, he is also a member of USYSA Region 1 coaching staff and a member of the Instructional Staff for New Jersey Youth Soccer Association, Massachusetts Youth Soccer Association, and Connecticut Youth Soccer Association. Urbina holds the USSF A license, A NSCAA Advanced National Diploma, Dutch KNVB license, and Brazilian Coaching License. While at Springfield College, Urbina will complete a master's degree in athletic counseling.

Additional staff will include coaches from various institutions across the New-England region.

Full payment is requested with registration. Upon receipt of registration, a confirmation letter containing additional information and a medical form will be sent out. A completed medical form, signed by a physician, and proof of health insurance will be required prior to the start of camp. This camp complies with regulations of the Massachusetts Department of Public Health and is licensed by the local board of health.
