Springfield College Equestrian Club

About the Team:

Equestrian Team The Equestrian Team at Springfield College is composed of a spirited group of riders at every level of experience, ranging from walk trot riders to advanced riders who have competed in the A circuit. The team trains with Alison Guerin of Heritage Farm in Easthampton, MA. She has ridden competitively throughout her life as well as in college and is very knowledgeable of the sport and how the intercollegiate circuit works. Ms. Guerin is very flexible in her teaching techniques, being able to teach all abilities. Because it’s a club sport there are no tryouts for the team. We’re a growing team and we welcome all riders regardless of experience. All that’s required is a love for riding.

About the Shows

Equestrian Team The team shows in the ISHA Zone I Region III, competing against schools in this area which include: Amherst College, Assumption College, Becker College, Clark University, Hampshire College, Holy Cross, Landmark College, Mount Holyoke College, Smith College, UMASS Amherst, Westfield State and Williams College. There are four shows in the fall semester and three in the spring, with Regionals counting as the fourth (all occurring on a Saturday). Colleges volunteer to host shows at their facility, where their horses are used. Unlike horse shows where you would bring the horse you would show, intercollegiate shows use the host college’s horses. Points are awarded by the placing of the class first through sixth. Once a rider reaches 35 points in their division (25 pts. for Open Division), they are considered to have “pointed out” of their division. This qualifies them to participate in the Regional Horse show, and compete at the next level division at future shows.
