SPRINGFIELD HISTORY
The history of Springfield College is a featured installation at the new Museum of Springfield History, which opened its doors in October at 21 Edwards St. The College is the only institution of higher education featured. Read more.
SUPER 60 AWARD RECOGNIZES COLLEGE AS MAJOR CONTRIBUTOR TO REGIONAL ECONOMY

WHAT WAS THE ILLUMINATED CANOE PARADE?
A century ago, during the 1909 commencement week, a group of seniors decorated five canoes in preparation for what was likely the first water parade. This initiated a tradition that continued for several decades, with each year’s parade becoming bigger and better than the year before. Learn more about this event. FOOTBALL TO HOST ECAC DIVISION III NORTHEAST BOWL CHAMPIONSHIP GAME SATURDAY VERSUS PLYMOUTH STATE
Head coach Mike DeLong and his Springfield College football team (7-2) will host Plymouth State University (8–2) this Saturday, Nov. 21, at noon in the ECAC Northeast Bowl Championship Game at Amos Alonzo Stagg Field. Read more.
BUTLER AND SAPOWSKY LEAD WOMEN'S BASKETBALL TO 57-47 WIN AT WORCESTER STATE IN SEASON OPENER
Both Andrea Butler and Amelia Sapowsky recorded 17 points as the women's basketball team notched a 57-47 win on the road at Worcester State on Nov. 17 in both squads’ season openers. Read more.
BLACKMON POWERS MEN'S BASKETBALL PAST SALEM STATE, 74-63
Ryan Blackmon poured in a career-best 30 points, while Pat Crean became the 26th player in program history to score 1,000 points as the men's basketball team picked up a big 74-63 win at Salem State on Nov. 17. Read more.
FULLER QUALIFIES FOR NCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS AT
NEW ENGLAND REGIONALS
Junior Brian Fuller qualified to run in the upcoming NCAA Championships as he finished eighth at the 2009 NCAA Division III Cross Country New England Regional Qualifier at Twin Brooks on Nov. 14. Read more.
DIPAOLO EARNS USTFCCCA DIVISION III CROSS COUNTRY ALL-REGION HONORS
Senior Amanda DiPaolo was honored for her success this season as she was selected to the 2009 USTFCCCA Division III Cross Country All-New England Region Team. Read more.
MEN'S SWIMMING AND DIVING TOPS URI, 162-133
Men's swimming and diving picked up a 162-133 win at the University of Rhode Island on Nov. 14. Matt Fitzgerald set the pace for Springfield as he swept the diving competition. Read more.
WOMEN'S SWIMMING AND DIVING SPLASHES BY SMITH, 172-118
The women's swimming and diving team splashed by conference foe Smith, 172-118, in the Art Linkletter Natatorium on Nov. 7. Kaitlin Reilly, Meg Cooney, and Jaclyn Van Waalwijk each won multiple events on the day. Read more.
STALSBURG AND CHESSEN PICK UP NEWMAC
ALL-CONFERENCE HONORS
The men's soccer team had a pair of athletes named to the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) All-Conference Team on Nov. 10. Eric Stalsburg and David Chessen were named to the all-conference second team for their efforts this season. Read more.
PRICE, SAWCZUK, AND MOSCARDELLI EARN NEWMAC ALL-CONFERENCE HONORS
Three members of the women's soccer team were selected to the New England Women's and Men's All Conference Team on Nov. 10. Courtney Price was named a first-team selection, while Caitlin Sawczuk and Jackie Moscardelli were tabbed second-team honorees. Read more.
WRESTLING FINISHES FOURTH AT ITHACA INVITATIONAL
In its opening competition of the season, the wrestling team finished fourth at the 2009 Ithaca Invitational Nov. 7-8. The host Bombers had five individual champions as they won the event. Ryan McGilvray and Ron Fusco each finished third in their respective weight classes to pace the Pride. Read more.
LIVELY TABBED 2009 AVCA ALL-NEW ENGLAND REGION SELECTION; LANG-RODEAN EARNS HONORABLE MENTION
After leading the Springfield College women's volleyball team to a 27-7 overall record, juniors Heather Lively and Sarah Lang-Rodean were named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) New England All-Region team. Read more.
REIN AND HOPPMANN EARN LONGSTRETH/NFHCA DIVISION III ALL-REGION HONORS IN FIELD HOCKEY
Seniors Morgan Rein and Julie Hoppmann continued to be acknowledge for their fine play this season as they were selected as 2009 Longstreth/NFHCA Division III All-Region honorees. Rein was named to the New England East Region First Team, while Hoppmann picked up second team honors. Read more.

Honoring Springfield College’s 125th anniversary, this lively event –– choreographed by guests, faculty members, and students –– includes new works by Wendy Holmes and Cynthia Nazzaro, inspired by Italian culture, music, and Renaissance and baroque dance forms. Students will perform reconstructions of José Limón’s “Etude” and Ted Shawn’s “Gnoissienne,” along with selected alumni and student works.
