Conversation Partners Program

Conversation Partners

Conversation Partners To support International Students and limited English speaking students, the Conversation Partners Program matches non-native speaking students with native-speaking Conversation Tutors. In partnership with the International Center, the Academic Success Center provides support for students wishing to improve conversation and comprehension skills in spoken American English.

During one-on-one sessions, students and Conversation Tutors hold topical discussions and informal conversations in English. Conversation Tutors help their students improve listening skills, expand vocabulary, check comprehension, explain American colloquialisms and, in general, support their assigned students’ skill-enhancement in spoken English.

Students interested in the Conversation Partners Program should contact Deb Alm, the Director of the International Center at 413-748-3216, or dalm@spfldcol.edu.

The Conversation Partners Program is a part of the College’s larger support system for non-native speaking students. Interested students may enroll in coursework in English to Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) and TOEFL preparation, or may consult with professionals experienced in ESOL and language acquisition.
