Justine Dymond's Bio

Justine Dymond joined the Humanities faculty in fall 2008 and teaches courses in literature and writing, including Survey of American Literature, African American Literature, and College Writing. Her interests encompass creative writing, American literature, “ethnic” mysteries, transatlantic modernism, and motherhood memoirs. Before coming to Springfield College, Professor Dymond taught for several years at UMass Amherst, where she also worked in teaching and faculty development.

Professor Dymond’s short fiction and poetry have appeared in numerous literary journals, including The Massachusetts Review, Pleiades, The Briar Cliff Review, and Cimarron Review. Her short story, “Cherubs,” was selected for The O. Henry Prize Stories 2007, and was also listed as a distinguished story in The Best American Short Stories 2006. In literary criticism, she has published or forthcoming articles on Gertrude Stein, Virginia Woolf, Mourning Dove, and Sherman Alexie. Her essay on teaching ethnic literature appears in Teaching American Literature: A Journal of Theory and Practice (Winter 2007). She is currently working on a novel set during the shirtwaist factory strikes of 1909 and a co-edited anthology of essays on motherhood memoirs.
