All full-time undergraduate and graduate students are eligible to be seen at the Health Center regardless of their health insurance carrier. Students do not need to have the school health insurance to use campus health services.

State law requires health insurance coverage for all students enrolled in 9 or more credit hours at colleges and universities in Massachusetts. Students may elect to carry either private health insurance or the Springfield College Student Insurance Plan. If coverage is through an out-of-state health maintenance organization (HMO), prior approval is usually required for non-emergency medical and surgical services.

An alternative for students with HMO coverage would be to purchase the school insurance as a supplemental plan to minimize problems that might arise when an HMO does not approve various services.

Contact your health insurance company directly for details regarding specific coverage. Charges incurred for medical services are the responsibility of the student. The Springfield College Health Center does not bill insurance directly, so students must be familiar with procedures associated with their own health insurance policy.
