Health Science Students Visit Columbia University’s Mailman School of Public Health
Professor Joseph Stano, Ph.D., Associate Professor Mike Accordino, D.Ed., and Adjunct Professor Pamela Higgins, all of the Rehabilitation and Disability Studies Department, traveled to Columbia University in New York City with thirteen health science students to visit the Mailman School of Public Health. The students met with Joseph Korevec, Ph.D., Director of Admissions and Financial Aid at the Mailman School, to learn more about graduate school opportunities. They finished the day with dinner and met with Andrea Perkins Nerlich, Ph.D. ’98, G’00, who is a rehabilitation counseling faculty member at Hofstra University
Kathleen Pappas and Janet M. Cope Were Two Authors of a Research Paper Published in the Journal of Physical Therapy Education
Kathleen Pappas, DPT, Assistant Professor of Human Anatomy, and Janet M. Cope G’94, were two authors of “Comparison of Personal Formaldehyde Levels in Anatomy Laboratories of 5 Physical Therapist Education Programs,” published in the Journal of Physical Therapy Education. The article was a study of the effects of formaldehyde on physical therapy students who work with embalmed subjects.Kathy M Post, Ph.D., Presented at the AOTA/NBCOT 2011 Student Conclave in Providence, R.I.
The American Occupational Therapy Association and the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy 2011 Student Conclave was held from Nov. 11-12, in Providence, R.I. The event was attended by professional level Occupational Therapy students. Kathy M Post, Ph.D., Chair of the Occupational Therapy Department, presented a session entitled “Occupational Therapists (OT) in Academia-OT Education as a Career Choice.”Gary Wiemokly has Given Keynote Talks on EMS Leadership, EMS System Management, and Special Clinical Subjects
Gary Wiemokly, Program Director for the paramedic training of the Springfield College Emergency Medical Services Management Program, has traveled to numerous state and national Emergency Medical Services (EMS) conferences this year. He has given keynote talks on EMS leadership, EMS system management, and special clinical subjects including diabetes in the pediatric population, head injuries (specifically concussions), and assessment of the pregnant patient. Wiemokly’s recent conference travels include New Hampshire, Maine, South Dakota, and Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada.J. Patrick Decoteau Co-presented at a Pre-conference Training Session and was Also Named Associate Editor of the Journal of Applied Rehabilitation Counseling
J. Patrick Decoteau, PhD., Professor of Rehabilitation and Disability Studies, recently co-presented at a pre-conference training session at the International Association of Rehabilitation Professionals 2011 Forensic Conference held in Las Vegas, Nev. The presentation was entitled: “Forensics 101: Basic Training for Rehabilitation Counselors and Life Care Planners” and Decoteau focused on the role and function of the rehabilitation expert. Decoteau was also recently named associate editor of the Journal of Applied Rehabilitation Counseling, the professional journal of the National Rehabilitation Counseling Association.Click here for the Summer 2011 archives
