J. Patrick Decoteau recently presented at the International Association of Rehabilitation Professionals 2010 Case Management/Disability Management Conference

J. Patrick Decoteau, Ph.D., CRC/LRC, professor of rehabilitation and disability studies, recently presented at the International Association of Rehabilitation Professionals (IARP) 2010 Case Management/Disability Management Conference held in Scottsdale, Ariz. Decoteau co-presented with Jon Veltri, G’93. Their presentation was entitled: “Ethical Decision Making: Interacting with the New 2010 CRCC Code of Professional Ethics and the 2009 CDMS Code of Professional Conduct.” Decoteau serves IARP’s secretary/treasurer, is a member of the IARP Board of Directors, and chairs the IARP Finance Committee. Decoteau is a former CRCC commissioner representing the National Rehabilitation Counseling Association, of which he is a life-time member.

Paul J. Bourgeois ‘09 recently presented at the International Association of Rehabilitation Professionals 2010 Case Management/Disability Management Conference

Paul J. Bourgeois ’09 and graduate teaching fellow in the Rehabilitation and Disability Studies Department, recently presented a paper at the International Association of Rehabilitation Professionals (IARP) 2010 Case Management/Disability Management Conference held in Scottsdale, Ariz. His paper, titled “Coping with Cancer and Chronic Illness,” was part of the 2009 Case Management/Disability Management’s Student Paper Contest, in which he competed against doctoral candidates from the University of Arizona and Ohio University. Bourgeois will be repeating his presentation as part of the 2010 New England Chapter of IARP spring conference that will be held in April on the Central Connecticut State University campus.

Michael Accordino has been selected as the Counselor Education Outstanding Alumni

Dr. Michael Accordino, Associate Professor of the Rehabilitation and Disabilities Studies Department, has been selected as the Counselor Education Outstanding Alumni by Penn State University, his Alma Mater. Dr. Accordino will receive his award at the next American Counseling Association Conference on March 20th, in Pittsburgh, PA.

Charles Milch and Mary-Laura Whelihan featured in the January edition of the Healthcare News of Western Massachusett

Professor Charles Milch, program director for the Physician Assistant (PA) program, and Mary-Laura Whelihan, PA student, were featured in the January edition of the Healthcare News of Western Massachusetts. The Career Focus article depicts the bright future of the Physician Assistant profession and validates why the job prospect for Physician Assistants is so favorable. Mary-Laura explains why she chose the Physician Assistant program at Springfield College and describes the typical life of a Physician Assistant student as they progress through the program. Charles gives an overview of the Physician Assistant program at Springfield College and the role the faculty play in helping students decide which job offer to accept.
