Katherine Post and Ellen Rainville published “Universal Design for Learning (UDL): Making Classroom Activities and Curricula Usable for All” in the March 14 issue of OT Practice

Katherine Post, Ph.D., chair of and professor in the occupational therapy department, and Ellen Rainville, O.T.D., associate professor of occupational therapy, published “Universal Design for Learning (UDL): Making Classroom Activities and Curricula Usable for All” in the March 14 issue of OT Practice, a biweekly magazine published by the American Occupational Therapy Association. The article discusses how occupational therapy practitioners can help educators implement Universal Design principles into classroom environments and learning activities to support the learning of all students, not just those with disabilities.

Julia Chevan PT, PhD, MPH, OCS and two of her coauthors have been selected by the Editorial Advisory Board of the Journal of Physical Therapy Education (JPTE) to be the recipient of the 2010 Stanford Award

Julia Chevan PT, PhD, MPH, OCS and two of her coauthors have been selected by the Editorial Advisory Board of the Journal of Physical Therapy Education (JPTE) to be the recipient of the 2010 Stanford Award. This award was established through the generosity of Dr. Katherine Shepard and others who worked and studied at Stanford University in physical therapy education for many decades. The Stanford Award is given to the authors “to honor the most influential paper published in the Journal of Physical Therapy Education for 2010”. Dr. Chevan’s coauthors were Steven Wilkinson PT, PhD from Rockhurst University and Daniel Vreeman, PT, DPT, MS from Indiana University. The title of the article was “Establishing the centrality of health informatics in physical therapist education: if not now, when?”. Dr. Kathy Pappas received the award at the recent American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) Combined Sections Meeting in New Orleans on behalf of Dr. Chevan. Dr. Chevan serves as Chair of the Physical Therapy Department and is engaged in her work as a Fulbright Scholar in Rwanda this semester.

The Stanford Award was initiated by Dr. Shepard in 2000 through an endowment to the APTA’s Education Section. Dr. Chevan is the second member of the Springfield College Physical Therapy faculty to be so honored. Dr. Regina Kaufman PT, EdD, NCS, also received the Stanford Award for her article entitled "A reflection on disciplinary nature and the status of physical therapy scholarship" that appeared in the Spring 2005 issue of the JPTE.

Jon N. Christenson recently presented his paper at the International Association of Rehabilitation Professionals

Jon N. Christenson, G’10 recently presented his paper entitled, The Ethical Implications for Insurance Rehabilitation Practitioners: Fact or Fiction, at the International Association of Rehabilitation Professionals CM/DM Conference held in Scottsdale, Arizona. His presentation marked the final phase of the 2010 Graduate Student Paper Competition where finalists were selected to attend the conference and present their papers for the final judging during one of the sessions held at the conference. Mr. Christenson was awarded first place at the Awards luncheon and as finalist will have his paper included in an upcoming issue of IARP’s Rehabilitation Professional journal. Mr. Christenson received his MEd in Rehabilitation Counseling & Services this past December and is currently working as a Vocational Consultant for MassMutual Financial Group.
