Dear Campers and Families,

It is an exciting time at Camp Massasoit as we prepare for another great season of summer camp fun. We would like to thank our returning families for their continued commitment to Camp Massasoit and the incredible word-of-mouth support that they provide to our camp. To our new parents and campers, we hope to fulfill all of the wonderful statements that you have heard about Camp Massasoit. Welcome!

During a time when physical activity is being emphasized less in our schools and going outside to play competes with video games and DVDs, summer camp is more important than ever. It is a time for our campers to reconnect with the natural world around them and take tremendous pride in their physical accomplishments. It is a powerful experience to watch our campers climb to the top of our high ropes course elements or win a canoe race on the lake. We at Camp Massasoit feel honored that you allow us to help build these lifelong memories with your children.

Camp is a character-building experience. It helps to develop strength in decision making, self-confidence, and the spirit of a strong community that is so valuable in our world. This holds true for our campers, our staff, and us as adults as well.

This is what we mean when we say that Camp Massasoit is an “experiential” camp. Our campers learn by doing, not by being told. It is the valuable process that they pass through individually that allows them to take responsibility for their learning and proceed at their own pace. Camp holds life lessons for everyone.

Within this brochure you will read about the four areas of respect: for self, peers, counselors, and the environment. It is through this philosophy that we attempt to program and role model for our campers how to become better people within their own worlds. But don’t tell them this. They just think that they are having incredible fun!

As you review the information within this brochure, please feel free to contact us or a member of our staff should you have any further questions regarding how Camp Massasoit can best serve you and your family this summer camp season. We encourage you and your families to visit us during our Camp Massasoit Open Houses.

See you this summer,

Ben Taylor & Angela Veatch
