Dr. Dan Fraizer

Dr. Fraizer teaches writing and directs the Writing Center at Springfield College. He has taught at the college since 1995, and has taught the first year writing course sequence, advanced composition, and business writing. He recruits, trains, and supervises approximately ten mostly graduate tutor/consultants in the Writing Center. The Writing Center serves all students at the college, and Dr. Fraizer reaches out to faculty in many departments to support their needs. Dr. Fraizer has also served as the faculty advisor for the student literary magazine, The Alden Street Review, and has chaired and led the Writing across the Curriculum Committee. He has also served on the all college curriculum committee and the committee for the advancement of service learning, as well as many other ad hoc committees.

Dr. Fraizer’s research interests focus on the teaching and politics of writing at all levels, but especially as they relate to social justice and literacy. He has published articles in The Writing Instructor, Teaching English in the Two Year College, and Michigan Journal of Community Service Education. He has also published book chapters in The Literacy Connection< edited by Ron Sudol and Alice Horning; and The Politics of Writing in Two Year Colleges<, edited by Barry Alford and Keith Kroll. He has also presented papers at numerous conferences, including the New England Regional Writing Center Conference, the New England Popular Culture Conference, the National Conference on Composition and Communication, and various educational conferences. His most recent publication will appear in the Fall, 2003 issue of Journal of Writing Assessment. It is titled,“The Politics of High Stakes Writing Assessment in Massachusetts: When Inventing a Better Assessment Model is Not Enough.” Student Interviews
