Teacher Licensure Program with a Master’s Degree Option

The Springfield College Health Education Teacher Licensure Program is designed to prepare teachers in one or two years to teach students in PreK through grade twelve.

This program is Massachusetts state approved and offers a unique training experience to include:
  • Flexible Scheduling – The program is designed to meet the needs of each individual. This allows participants to meet all initial licensure requirements and be employed as a full-time teacher within 12-24 months.
  • A rigorous field-based training experience - Participants complete either a fifteen-week practicum that includes experience at both the elementary and secondary level or for the licensed teacher, a semester long 130-clock hour clinical experience.
  • A commitment to recruiting a diverse and academically talented candidate pool – We seek candidates who represent a diverse range of life experience, ethnicity, and economic background.

The Graduate Level Initial Licensure Program in Health Education is intended to meet the needs of those students who have earned undergraduate degrees in fields other than health education or those students who earned an initial teaching license in another subject. Completion of this program qualifies graduate students for teacher licensure in Health/Family and Consumer Sciences (all levels).

Participants can complete the licensure program without completing a Master’s Degree or they can secure a M.S. or M.Ed. by completing additional requirements.

Massachusetts Tests for Educator Licensure (MTEL)

Students must pass the MTEL Communication & Literacy Skills (C & L) test and Health subject test in order to make satisfactory progress in this program and be eligible to do their practicum or clinical experience. All graduate students are advised to take the required MTEL tests as soon as possible. For more information about MTEL, including test registration deadlines, go to: www.mtel.nesinc.com Student Interviews
