Athletic Training Major at Springfield College

Athletic Training The athletic training major, developed in 1975, is a challenging, competency-based, professional preparation program leading toward eligibility to take the Board of Certification (BOC ®) Examination in Athletic Training. The program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE).

Athletic Training In addition to prescribed coursework, students complete clinical experience under the direct supervision of BOC-certified and Massachusetts licensed athletic trainers. This clinical experience is sequenced to facilitate learning of the theoretical and clinical competencies and problem-solving skills needed by the athletic trainer. The supervised clinical experiences take place in Springfield College athletic training rooms as well as in off-campus, approved affiliate settings, including high schools and colleges.

Athletic TrainingAdmission into the Athletic Training Education Program (ATEP) is competitive, with more applications than admission slots. Both first year and transfer applicants who are admitted into the program enter directly into the major; there is no secondary selection process.

For more information about the undergraduate program in athletic training, contact Dr. Mary Barnum at (413) 748-3763 or the Admissions Office at (800) 343-1257.
