Class of '75 Spring Reunion Letter

March 8, 2005

Dear Class of 1975,

It’s time to mark your calendars…Pat O’Reilly and Diana Peckham, co-chairs for the reunion--along with the other members of the committee--are making plans for our 30th Springfield College reunion on June 9-12, 2005. We invite you to treat yourself to time travel and a wonderful experience.

Having attended several reunions over the past few years, Pat and I have some ideas on how to make it a memorable time! But we need you to confirm/reserve that you will join all of us on campus. Chris Caster is our contact in the Alumni Office and is working hard to make sure things go smoothly for us. One snail mail went out before Christmas. If you know of someone who needs to get the brochures when they're ready, please contact the Alumni Office staff.

The first three floors of International have been reserved for us for housing (linens and towels included), and the basement area is our social/reception space. We have reserved the Pueblo at East Campus for a Friday night social with van delivery to and from, so driving is not a concern. We are finalizing Saturday’s dinner site and menu options and have booked a rockin’ band (Who Knows Who) for after dinner. Donnie Gallagher is heading up that committee. Donnie Pingree is making a “Class Notes” CD, which will be sold at the registration site all weekend. Sales will cover the band costs. Charlie Brock is heading our Saturday activities committee, suitable for youngsters and for us, too! Also, the Athletics Department Junior Pride Club will be offering a variety of programs for kids age 3-12. We have items for the silent auction as another fund raiser. There are lots of other things yet to be done: class souvenir, parade toy, social committees, and decorations. Pat is looking for pictures so she can up date the slides into a video. Send any appropriate pix to her c/o of the Alumni Office. Just be sure you identify the people in the photo and put your name on the back so she can get them back to you. We hope you will want to join us and share the fun!

Reunion committee member besides, Pat, Diana, Donnie G., Donnie P. and Charlie, include Pauline Carey, Rick Maynard, Ginny Baeder Lavallo, Sue Petersen Lubow, Tony Ricci, Ed Craver, Kevin O’Sullivan, Dan and Lynda Otto White, Barb Raymond Ernst, Laura White Marks, Trin Tierney Frost, Laurie Dodge Knauer, Mary Kaskiw Spiga, Karen Moody, Roger Winkelman, and Pat Vaughan. Everyone is ready to have a great time!

As ’74 has welcomed members from a variety of other classes, we also expect a number of them to also join us. We would ask that you “pay it forward” with “six degrees of separation.” Contact six people you would like to see at SC in June. Include someone from a different year in your six. We didn’t attend school in a bubble, so let’s re-connect with them, too! Encourage them all to come back and renew old ties and make some new ones. Ask them to contact six, include the info, and pay it forward…

To cover the costs of this incredible weekend, we ask that you pay $25.75 as class dues. Just mark on your check ’75 Class Dues. We know this can get confusing. There's the "Campaign Fund Drive", which includes plans for new buildings and other campus improvements. And there's the "Annual Fund" (unrestricted gifts) that support the greatest needs of the College - primarily, financial aid for students. What you need to know is that ALL of our gifts to the College in this reunion year are considered our "Class Gift". Dan & Lynda Otto White are heading up this effort, and it is great PR for our class, so please give generously to them. But, the $25.75 class dues is strictly to pay for costs that the class generates for the reunion weekend.

Nearly 30 classmates have already confirmed attending, with another 10 + as maybes. You can find their names on the class pages site. If you can't come for the entire weekend, at least treat yourself to a part of it! There is child care available on both Friday and Saturday nights. A brochure with all the details (including a late fee of $14.00 for the Saturday dinner if you register after June 9) will be sent out in April, when we will also hold a phone-a-thon.

If you’ve never been back for reunion, you’ll be wonderfully surprised at all the beautiful physical changes on campus: from the new dorms by Benedum Field to the revamped Cheney Hall, from the “no road” through campus to the lawns in front of Reed and International (which is no longer blue!), from International’s back deck to the soon-to-be-finished-new-look BC.

So what are you waiting for?! Mark your calendars, contact six people, and tell them to join in the fun! Send in your check for $25.75 (marked ’75 Class Dues) to the SC Alumni Office, 263 Alden Street, Springfield, MA 01109. Also check out the class web page. There will be forthcoming snail mail letters with all the particulars. Pat and I look forward to hearing from you, but more importantly, to seeing you in June.

With “Scotsman” Spirit,

Pat O’Reilly and Diana Peckham
