Course of Study:

The program combines five courses (15 s.h.) with a full-time practicum (6 s.h.) in a school setting for a total of 21 credits. Students can opt to take an additional 11 credits for a Master’s Degree.

Prerequisites:

The graduate level initial licensure program has been designed for students who meet the following entrance criteria:
  1. A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a satisfactory record;
  2. A transcript review will be done to ensure the following prerequisites are met before/during enrollment in the Graduate Program:
    • Anatomy & Physiology I and II
    • Growth and Development
    • Families in Society
    • Consumer Health
    • Human Sexuality
    • Substance Use and Abuse
    • First Aid and CPR (or certification)
    • Basic Nutrition
    • Multicultural Course (may take at graduate level)
    • Pre-practicum
  3. Commitment to the field of education as demonstrated through past experience;
  4. Submission of Graduate Record Examination score taken within the last five years of the date of application.
SC AmeriCorps Program – Provides eligible students the chance to serve for one year in a Springfield Public School. Benefits of service include a living stipend and a monetary education award from the Corporation for National Service. (This program is contingent upon ongoing grant funding through the Massachusetts Service Alliance.)

Graduate Associateships & Assistantships Provides financial assistance and are available within a number of departments for a limited number of qualified graduate students.
